Coronagraph for astronomical imaging and spectrophotometry

Applied Optics, 1987
A coronagraph designed to minimize scattered light in astronomical observations caused by the structure of the primary mirror, secondary mirror, and secondary support structure of a Cassegrainian telescope is described. Direct (1:1) and reducing (2.7:1) imaging of astronomical fields are possible. High-quality images are produced.

Tomographic inversion of coronagraph images

AIP Conference Proceedings, 1996
Due to the rotation of the Sun the solar corona can be observed under different directions at different times. Using methods of computer tomography the three-dimensional structure of the electron density in the solar corona can be reconstructed.

Extrasolar Planetary Imaging Coronagraph (EPIC)

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
The Extrasolar Planetary Imaging Coronagraph (EPIC) is a proposed NASA Discovery mission to image and characterize extrasolar giant planets in orbits with semi-major axes between 2 and 10 AU. EPIC will provide insights into the physical nature of a variety of planets in other solar systems complimenting radial velocity (RV) and astrometric planet ...

The Gemini Planet Imager coronagraph testbed

SPIE Proceedings, 2009
The Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) is a new facility instrument to be commissioned at the 8-m Gemini South telescope in early 2011. It combines of several subsystems including a 1500 subaperture Extreme Adaptive Optics system, an Apodized Pupil Lyot Coronagraph, a near-infrared high-accuracy interferometric wavefront sensor, and an Integral Field Unit ...

Gemini Planet Imager coronagraph testbed results

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
The Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) is an extreme AO coronagraphic integral field unit YJHK spectrograph destined for first light on the 8m Gemini South telescope in 2011. GPI fields a 1500 channel AO system feeding an apodized pupil Lyot coronagraph, and a nIR non-common-path slow wavefront sensor.

Polarization interferometric nulling coronagraph for high-contrast imaging

Applied Optics, 2010
We propose a novel, high-contrast imager called a polarization interferometric nulling coronagraph (PINC) for direct detection of extrasolar planets. The PINC uses achromatic half-wave plates (HWPs) installed in a fully symmetric beam combiner based on polarizing beam splitters.

Near Infrared Coronagraphic Imager for Gemini South

SPIE Proceedings, 2003
The Near Infrared Coronagraphic Imager for Gemini South (NICI) is a dual beam coronagraphic camera operating over the 1.0 to 5.5 micrometer wavelength range with a dedicated adaptive optics system. NICI target science, design and capabilities will be described as an introduction to this instrument slated for deployment in mid 2005.

PIAA coronagraph for Origins Space telescope (OST) mid-infrared imager, spectrometer, coronagraph (MISC) instrument

Advances in Optical and Mechanical Technologies for Telescopes and Instrumentation III, 2018
The Mid-infrared Imager, Spectrometer Coronagraph (MISC) instrument studied for the Origins Space Telescope (OST) Mission Concept 1 is designed to observe at mid-infrared (MIR) wavelengths ranging from 5 to 38 microns for OST. In the OST Mission Concept 1 study, MISC consists of three separate optical modules providing imaging, spectroscopy, and ...
