Pharmacology of the coronary circulation [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anaesthesia, 1987
Until recently, the medical management of coronary artery disease consisted of depressing the heart's requirements for oxygen. Little thought was directed towards improving coronary blood flow as it was believed that atherosclerotic lesions were fixed, unchangeable obstructions.

Mechanical chest-compression devices: current and future roles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose of review: It is recognised that the quality of CPR is an important predictor of outcome from cardiac arrest yet studies consistently demonstrate that the quality of CPR performed in real life is frequently sub-optimal.

Programmable Compliance in Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts by Design of Melt‐Electrowritten Scaffold Architectures for In Situ Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Small‐diameter vascular grafts with compliance tunable by design are fabricated via melt electrowriting. By controlling the winding angle of intertwined helical fibers, grafts with compliances matching those of human vessels, from veins to arteries, are realized. This holds the potential of avoiding a compliance mismatch, which has been identified as a

Association of change in cardiovascular health based on life's essential 8 with incident cardiovascular disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Preventive Cardiology
Objective: To evaluate whether and to what extent changes in cardiovascular health (CVH) based on life's essential 8 (LE8) are associated with incident cardiovascular disease (CVD). Methods: A total of 7,194 participants were derived from UK Biobank. CVH

Mesoporous Bioactive Glasses: A Powerful Tool in Tissue Engineering and Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work is a comprehensive revision of bioactive glasses (BGs), pioneered by Prof. L.L. Hench, which are key in bone repair and regenerative medicine. Sol–gel methods and mesoporous designs enhanced their bioactivity, ions, and drug delivery. BGs now support gene therapy and 3D‐printed scaffolds, enabling personalized, multifunctional treatments in ...

Dose-response associations of accelerometer-measured physical activity with mortality across frailty levels: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesExperimental Gerontology
Background: Limited evidence, majorly based on questionnaire-derived measurements, was available to reflect long-term benefits of physical activity (PA) across different frailty levels.

Association of coronary artery dominance and mortality rate and complications in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention

open access: yesJournal of Research in Medical Sciences, 2020
Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is the treatment of choice for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Effect of coronary artery dominance on the patients' outcome following primary PCI (PPCI) is not fully ...

Drug treatment of hypertension: focus on vascular health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hypertension, the most common preventable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and death, is a growing health burden. Serious cardiovascular complications result from target organ damage including cerebrovascular disease, heart failure, ischaemic heart

A Patient‐Specific 3D Printed Carotid Artery Model Integrating Vascular Structure, Flow, and Endothelium Responses

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces the first miniaturized, patient‐specific carotid artery model created via 3D printing using GelMA with embedded vascular cells. Combining CFD, PIV, and flow perfusion, the model replicates anatomically dependent hemodynamics and cellular responses.
