Ribose 2′-O-methylation provides a molecular signature for the distinction of self and non-self mRNA dependent on the RNA sensor Mda5 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The 5'-cap-structures of higher eukaryote mRNAs are ribose 2'-O-methylated. Likewise, a number of viruses replicating in the cytoplasm of eukayotes have evolved 2'-O-methyltransferases to modify autonomously their mRNAs.

Recent Advances in Virus–Host Interactions, Antiviral Bioactive Compounds, and Breeding for Disease Resistance of Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Basic research on the PEDV infection cycle and virus–host interactions advances the development of anti‐PEDV drugs and disease‐resistant breeding and helps strengthen disease prevention and control while reducing economic losses in the swine industry.

Evolutionary Relationships between Bat Coronaviruses and Their Hosts

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2007
Recent studies have suggested that bats are the natural reservoir of a range of coronaviruses (CoVs), and that rhinolophid bats harbor viruses closely related to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) CoV, which caused an outbreak of respiratory ...

Early protective effect of a (“pan”) coronavirus vaccine (PanCoVac) in Roborovski dwarf hamsters after single-low dose intranasal administration

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2023
IntroductionThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has highlighted the danger posed by human coronaviruses.

Heterogeneity of gene expression of the hemagglutinin-esterase (HE) protein of murine coronaviruses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The hemagglutinin-esterase (HE) membrane glycoprotein is present only in some members of the coronavirus family, including some strains of mouse hepatitis virus (MHV). In the JHM strain of MHV, expression of the HE gene is variable and corresponds to the

RBD‐SD1 Nanoparticle Vaccines From DPP4‐Using Merbecoviruses Elicit a Cross‐Reactive Antibody Response but Limited Cross‐Protective Immunity

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
SpyCatcher‐mi3 nanoparticles displaying RBD‐SD1 from MERS‐CoV, NL140422, and HKU4 elicited robust and cross‐reactive IgG responses in mice. Only MERS‐CoV RBD‐SD1 induced neutralizing antibodies against MERS‐CoV and protected human DPP4 mice from a MERS‐CoV challenge, indicating conserved serologic but limited cross‐neutralizing epitopes.

Genetic Characterization of Coronaviruses from Domestic Ferrets, Japan

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
We detected ferret coronaviruses in 44 (55.7%) of 79 pet ferrets tested in Japan and classified the viruses into 2 genotypes on the basis of genotype-specific PCR. Our results show that 2 ferret coronaviruses that cause feline infectious peritonitis–like

Inhibition of influenza virus infection by garlic oil and juice in cell culture

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Influenza virus infections are a significant global health and economic burden. Garlic (Allium sativum) has been proposed to have antimicrobial properties. Raw garlic consumption has been widely advocated on the internet to fight influenza by many public health agencies, information of which is easily accessible by the public. There

The SARS-coronavirus-host interactome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Coronaviruses (CoVs) are important human and animal pathogens that induce fatal respiratory, gastrointestinal and neurological disease. The outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2002/2003 has demonstrated human vulnerability to ...
