BRITE Nanosat Photometry Reveals Bright Spots in the Single Wolf–Rayet Star EZ CMa That Can Drive Spectral-line-emitting Corotating Interaction Regions

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze an unprecedented 4.5 contiguous months of 2015–2016 BRITE nanosatellite precision optical photometry of the 7th mag Wolf–Rayet (WR) star EZ CMa = WR 6 = HD 50896.

Monte Carlo Radiative Transfer Simulations of Light and Polarization Curves from Corotating Interaction Regions in the Winds of Massive Stars: Application to ζ Puppis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Using a Monte Carlo radiative transfer approach, we present an exploration of the parameter space to simulate light and polarization curves generated by corotating interaction regions (CIRs) in hot-star winds.

Determining the Interstellar Wind Longitudinal Inflow Evolution Using Pickup Ions in the Helium Focusing Cone

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The size, shape, and composition of the heliosphere are affected by its interaction with the local interstellar medium. A means of quantifying this interaction is by measuring the relative motion of the two media.

The Solar Wind and Geomagnetic Activity as a Function of Time Relative to Corotating Interaction Regions

open access: yes, 2006
Corotating interaction regions during the declining phase of the solar cycle are the cause of recurrent geomagnetic storms and are responsible for the generation of high fluxes of relativistic electrons.

"Corotating Interaction Region (CIR)", "Interaction Region", "Stream Interaction Region (SIR)", which term should be used?

open access: yes
Abstract. We discuss the history of quasiperiodic ~27-day recurrent geomagnetic activity and the origin of the names "interaction region", "corotating interaction region" and "stream interaction region". The latter three names have an identical meaning.
