Different vulnerability of fast and slow cortical oscillations to suppressive effect of spreading depolarization: state-dependent features potentially relevant to pathogenesis of migraine aura

open access: yesThe Journal of Headache and Pain
Background Spreading depolarization (SD), underlying mechanism of migraine aura and potential activator of pain pathways, is known to elicit transient local silencing cortical activity.

Parabiosis, Assembloids, Organoids (PAO)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review evaluates parabiosis, organoids, and assembloids as complementary disease models spanning systemic, organ, and multi‐organ levels. It highlights their construction strategies, applications, and current limitations, while emphasizing their integration with frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, organ‐on‐a‐chip, CRISPR, and ...

Adenylyl Cyclase 8 in Dorsal CA1 Neurons Prevents Depressive‐Like Behaviors by Maintaining Neuronal Excitability and Glutamatergic Neurotransmission Through TIP39‐PTH2R Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Depression, a prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder with unclear pathogenesis, involves dysfunctional adenylyl cyclase 8 (Adcy8) as a key risk factor. Chronic stress selectively reduces Adcy8 expression in the dorsal CA1 (dCA1) neurons. Depletion of Adcy8 in dCA1 excitatory neurons induces depressive‐like behaviors by impairing neuronal excitability and ...

Susceptibility Weighted Imaging in Migraines with and Without Aura: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesNeurology International
Background: The asymmetry of cortical veins in susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in MRI might be a biomarker for migraine auras and cortical spreading depression (CSD).

Bistable dynamics underlying excitability of ion homeostasis in neuron models

open access: yes, 2014
When neurons fire action potentials, dissipation of free energy is usually not directly considered, because the change in free energy is often negligible compared to the immense reservoir stored in neural transmembrane ion gradients and the long-term ...

Episodic neurologic disorders: syndromes, genes, and mechanisms. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many neurologic diseases cause discrete episodic impairment in contrast with progressive deterioration. The symptoms of these episodic disorders exhibit striking variety.

Flipping the Switch: MeCP2‐Mediated Lactylation Rewires Microglial Metabolism and Inflammation via the HK2/mTOR Axis in Poststroke Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stroke‐induced lactate accumulation promotes p300‐mediated lactylation of methyl‐CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2) at lysine 210, which reprograms microglial metabolism toward glycolysis and activates the hexokinase 2 (HK2)/mTOR axis. This cascade promotes proinflammatory responses and impairs neurofunctional outcomes.

Direct Current Coupled Recordings of Cortical Spreading Depression Using Silicone Probes

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2017
Electrophysiological assessment of infraslow (<0.1 Hz) brain activities such as cortical spreading depression (SD), which occurs in a number of pathologies including migraine, epilepsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and brain ischemia requires direct ...
