Ectomycorrhizal Community Shifts at a Former Uranium Mining Site

open access: yesJournal of Fungi, 2023
Ectomycorrhizal communities at young oak, pine, and birch stands in a former uranium mining site showed a low diversity of morphotypes with a preference for contact and short-distance exploration strategies formed by the fungi Russulaceae, Inocybaceae ...

Responses of soil fungal communities and functional guilds to ~160 years of natural revegetation in the Loess Plateau of China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Natural revegetation has been widely confirmed to be an effective strategy for the restoration of degraded lands, particularly in terms of rehabilitating ecosystem productivity and soil nutrients. Yet the mechanisms of how natural revegetation influences

Variable retention harvesting influences belowground plant-fungal interactions of Nothofagus pumilio seedlings in forests of southern Patagonia [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Background The post-harvest recovery and sustained productivity of Nothofagus pumilio forests in Tierra del Fuego may be affected by the abundance and composition of ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF).

The significance of tree retention on fungal communities and below‐ground stocks 12 years after harvest of boreal forest

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, August 2026.
Our results indicate that a decade after tree harvesting, ectomycorrhizal fungal community assembly shifted from stochastic to deterministic environmental filtering, with higher harvest intensity driving greater community differences. Certain Cortinarius species were harvest‐sensitive, while Piloderma cinicola increased at lower retention levels ...
