Assembly of the Inner Perivitelline Layer, a Homo log of the Mammalian Zona Pellucida: An Immunohistochemical and Ultrastructural Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The avian inner perivitelline layer (IPVL), a homologous structure to the mammalian zona pellucida, is deposited between the granulosa cells and the oocyte cell membrane during folliculogenesis. The glycoprotein meshwork of the IPVL forms a 3-dimensional

Detection of Genetic Relationship in the Tree of Life of Some Quail Through Molecular Markers Analyses

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2017
Quail is an important and interesting group of galliform birds. The Common quail (Coturnix coturnix); the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica); the Panda quail (Coturnix japonica); the Dotted white quail (Coturnix japonica) and the Bobwhite quail (Colinus ...

Uptake, metabolism, and elimination of fungicides from coated wheat seeds in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica).

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2020
Pesticides coated to the seed surface potentially pose an ecological risk to granivorous birds that consume incompletely buried or spilled seeds. To assess the toxicokinetics of seeds treated with current-use fungicides, Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)

Do estuaries pose a toxic contamination risk for wading birds? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The impact of potentially toxic chemicals on wildlife is commonly assessed by comparing the intake of the contaminant with the “no observable effects level” (NOAEL) of intake.

Marek’s Disease in the Japanese Quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica)

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1973
When eighty families were exposed by contact to CR64 strain of acute Marek's disease virus (M.D.V.), IS families exhibited no lesions while all of the offspring in 3 families were affected. Gross and microscopic lesions of M.D. appeared when quail were 75 days of age (68 days post exposure).

Divergent Selection for Egg Production in Coturnix coturnix japonica

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1983
From a randombred control population of Coturnix coturnix japonica, strains were divergently selected for high (HE) and low (LE) 120-day egg production based on individual egg records. Based on five generations of selection, realized heritabilities for HE and LE were .063 +/- .055 and .353 +/- .020, respectively.
