Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

High-performance coupled surface-subsurface flow simulation with SERGHEI-SWE-RE [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development
This work presents SERGHEI-SWE-RE, a performance-portable, parallel model that couples a fully dynamic two-dimensional Shallow Water Equation (SWE) solver with a three-dimensional Richards Equation (RE) solver within the Kokkos framework to simulate ...

A unified approach to realize universal quantum gates in a coupled two-qubit system with fixed always-on coupling

open access: yes, 2005
We demonstrate that in a coupled two-qubit system any single-qubit gate can be decomposed into two conditional two-qubit gates and that any conditional two-qubit gate can be implemented by a manipulation analogous to that used for a controlled two-qubit ...

Thermoreflectance Detection of Point Defects Resulting from Focused Ion Beam Milling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam (FIB) milling is a common tool for nanoscale material processing, however irradiation damage, redeposition, and contamination can occur. We use several characterization tools to show FIB‐induced effects beyond 1 mm from the milled area.

Design of the Vibrating Sieving Mechanism for a Quinoa Combine Harvester and Coupled Analysis of DEM-MBD

open access: yesAgriculture
Quinoa is renowned for its high nutritional value, which not only meets the nutritional needs of the human body but also makes it a suitable option for individuals with diabetes and celiac disease due to its low sugar and gluten-free characteristics.

Phase Response Curves of Coupled Oscillators

open access: yes, 2008
Many real oscillators are coupled to other oscillators and the coupling can affect the response of the oscillators to stimuli. We investigate phase response curves (PRCs) of coupled oscillators.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Simulation of Train-Turnout Coupled Dynamics Using a Multibody Simulation Software

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Engineering, 2018
With the advancements of computing power, multibody simulation (MBS) tool is used to study not only train dynamics but also more realistic phenomena such as train-track coupled dynamics. However, train-turnout coupled dynamics within MBS is still hard to
