Single-mode fiber length for wavefront filtering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Stellar nulling interferometry offers the possibility of direct imaging of extrasolar planets necessary for the detection of extra-terrestrial life. Achieving optimum performance from the interferometers requires that the wavefronts of light reaching the

The influence of fibre length and concentration on the properties of glass fibre reinforced polypropylene : 7. interface strength and fibre strain in injection moulded long fibre PP at high fibre content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The mechanical performance of injection moulded long glass fibre reinforced polypropylene with a glass fibre content in the range 0-73% by weight has been investigated.

Analysis of Coupling Losses for All-Fiber Integration of Subwavelength Core Hybrid Optical Fibers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Coupling losses for all-fiber integration of subwavelength core hybrid optical fibers have been first analyzed and optimized in detail. We have taken into account the effects of mode size, mode shape, effective refractive index, tapering beat length ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

High-Q bismuth silicate nonlinear glass microsphere resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The fabrication and characterization of a bismuth-silicate glass microsphere resonator has been demonstrated. At wavelengths near 1550 nm, high-modes can be efficiently excited in a 179 µm diameter bismuth-silicate glass microsphere via evanescent ...

Compact Planar Tunable Filter With Constant Absolute Bandwidth and Wide-Frequency Tuning Range Using DGS Coupling Structure

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2021
In this study, defected ground structures (DGSs) are applied in the coupling schemes of a planar tunable filter to achieve constant absolute bandwidth (CAB).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Fluid coupling between the elements in a discrete model of cochlear mechanics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
When analysing the coupled mechanics of the cochlea, due to the interaction between fluid coupling and basilar membrane motion, it is convenient to divide the cochlea longitudinally into a discrete number of sections.
