Design and construction of an optical test bed for LISA imaging systems and tilt-to-length coupling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The laser interferometer space antenna (LISA) is a future space-based interferometric gravitational-wave detector consisting of three spacecraft in a triangular configuration.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Electronic localization at mesoscopic length scales: different definitions of localization and contact effects in a heuristic DNA model

open access: yes, 2012
In this work we investigate the electronic transport along model DNA molecules using an effective tight-binding approach that includes the backbone on site energies.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Laser pulse propagation and enhanced energy coupling to fast electrons in dense plasma gradients

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
Laser energy absorption to fast electrons during the interaction of an ultra-intense (10 ^20 W cm ^−2 ), picosecond laser pulse with a solid is investigated, experimentally and numerically, as a function of the plasma density scale length at the ...

Multifloquet to single electronic channel transition in the transport properties of a resistive 1D driven disordered ring

open access: yes, 2007
We investigate the dc response of a 1D disordered ring coupled to a reservoir and driven by a magnetic flux with a linear dependence on time. We identify two regimes: (i) A localized or large length L regime, characterized by a dc conductance, g_{dc ...

Ultracold scattering processes in three-atomic helium systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We review results on scattering observables for $^4$He--$^4$He$_2$ and $^3$He--$^4$He$_2$ collisions. We also study the effect of varying the coupling constant of the atom-atom interaction on the scattering ...

Coupling of length scales and atomistic simulation of MEMS resonators [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 1999
We present simulations of the dynamic and temperature dependent behavior of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) by utilizing recently developed parallel codes which enable a coupling of length scales. The novel techniques used in this simulation accurately model the behavior of the mechanical components of MEMS down to the atomic scale.
