Scots Pines With Tolerance to Melampsora pinitorqua and Diplodia sapinea Show Distinct Metabolic Profiles

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 1479-1493, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Diplodia sapinea causes Diplodia tip blight (DTB) and is recognised as an opportunistic necrotrophic pathogen affecting conifers. While DTB is associated with abiotic stress, the impact of biotic stress in the host on D. sapinea's lifestyle shift is unknown. Observed co‐occurrences of D. sapinea and Melampsora pinitorqua, causing pine twisting

Variation in forest patch habitat quality for white‐footed mice driven by invasive plants in an urbanizing landscape

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 15, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract The habitat quality of urban forest patches is determined by the composition and structure of vegetation which in turn affects the quality of trophic resources and shelter provided for wildlife species. In addition, urban development in the landscape surrounding forest patches can affect species' movement between patches, further influencing ...

Transcriptome Analysis Identifies Two Ethylene Response Factors That Regulate Proanthocyanidin Biosynthesis During Malus Crabapple Fruit Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Proanthocyanidins (PAs) are a class of flavonoid compounds in plants that play many important roles in pest and disease resistance and are beneficial components of the human diet. The crabapple (Malus) provides an excellent model to study PA biosynthesis

Conserved cold tolerance of Rhagoletis species from different host fruits and elevations in Colorado, USA

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 216-226, September 2024.
R. pomonella (apple maggot fly) and R. basiola (rosehip fly) from Colorado overwinter as freeze‐avoidant pupae, surviving temperatures near −20°C. R. basiola populations from elevations of c. 1650 and c. 2900 m a.s.l. have similar cold tolerance, although high‐elevation pupae are smaller. R.
