A modelling technique for calculating stress intensity factors for structures reinforced by bonded straps. Part I: Mechanisms and formulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper describes a 2D FE modelling technique for predicting fatigue crack growth life of integral structures reinforced by bonded straps. This kind of design offers a solution to the intrinsic lack of damage tolerance of integral structures.

Crack propagation behavior of laser-MIG hybrid welded joints in 6005 aluminum alloy

open access: yesHanjie xuebao
The fatigue crack propagation behavior of laser-MIG hybrid welded joints in 6005A-T6 aluminum alloy is studied. Digital image correlation (DIC) technology is employed to capture the local displacement field near the crack tip during testing, enabling a ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Design and modeling of selective reinforcements for integral aircraft structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A numerical simulation is presented in this paper on the performance of crack retarders bonded to integral metallic structures. The work is described in two main parts.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Effect on Fatigue Performance of Residual Stress induced via Laser Shock Peening in Mechanically Damaged 2024‐T351 Aluminium Sheet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
During manufacture and maintenance the fuselage skin of aircraft are susceptible to damage in the form of scratches. Normally not considered to be of major concern to aircraft structural integrity some airlines discovered fatigue cracks had initiated ...

Effect of compressive loads on plasticity induced crack closure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Compressive stresses play an important role on tension-compression fatigue which can be attributed to plasticity induced crack closure (PICC). The objective here is to study numerically the effect of compressive stresses on PICC and to discuss the ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A study of fatigue crack propagation in quenched and tempered and controlled rolled HSLA steels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A range of HSLA steels reflecting the two major processing routes, quench and tempering and controlled rolling, have been tested in fatigue to assess their potential wider application in the offshore Industry.
