Quasistatic delamination problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We study delamination of two elastic bodies glued together by an adhesive that can undergo a unidirectional inelastic rate-independent process. The quasistatic delamination process is thus activated by time-dependent external loadings, realized through ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Is It Possible to Determine the Whole Crack Path at Once?

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings
A brief review of crack path calculation methods using integral principles of mechanics is presented. In twodimensional setting, a crack is considered as a geodesic line on the surface of a body with a metric that depends on the initial stress state. The

Crack path in single crystals

open access: yesScripta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1995
Abstract A two-dimisnsional analysis of crack propagation in anisotropic single crystal has revealed that the cleavage path depends on the shape of the γ-plot. Consequently, for a given notch plane the fracture path has been predicted to depend on the notch front orientation.

Crack deflection by design – Utilizing the material inhomogeneity effect on miniaturized additively manufactured structures

open access: yesMaterials & Design
A natural crack exhibits a surrounding stress field, which may overlap considerably with a stress field caused by any material inhomogeneity, influencing the crack driving force and extension direction.

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

RESEARCH ON FATIGUE CRACK PROPAGATION BEHAVIOR AND LIFE PREDICTION OF WIND TURBINE GEAR

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2022
Gearbox is one of the core components of wind turbine, and the gear under heavy load is prone to fatigue fracture, which affects the normal operation of the generator.
