Dynamic Crack-Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Measurements with Application to Fracture Toughness Testing

1992
Crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD) measurements were made 100 üm behind the crack tip on standard three-point bend specimens using a laser-based interferometric technique. Four materials (SAE-01 steel, 4340 steel, HY-100 steel, and tungsten) were tested at loading rates ranging from quasi-static (K ≈ 1 MPa∙ m½/s) to dynamic (K ≈ 106 MPa ∙ m½/s).

Effects of Ni and Mn addition on critical crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) of weld-simulated heat-affected zones of three high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steels

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2017
Abstract In order to understand and improve fracture toughness of heat affected zones (HAZs) of high-strength low alloy (HSLA) steels, complex microstructures including quasi-polygonal ferrite (QPF), acicular ferrite (AF), granular bainite (GB), bainitic ferrite (BF), and martensite-austenite (MA) constituent should be identified, quantified, and ...

Level-3 Crack-Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Assessment of Welded Wide Plates in Bending—Effect of Overmatching Weld Metal

1993
Butt-welded wide plates with semi-elliptical surface cracks along the fusion line were tested in four-point bending. The material was normalized low-carbon microalloyed steel that conformed to offshore specifications. The testing temperature was in the range of -40° to 0°C.

Prediction of Strength Mis-match Welded Joints Failure by Using of Crack Driving Force and Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Resistance Curve

Strojarstvo : časopis za teoriju i praksu u strojarstvu, 2000
Prediction of failure of fracture toughness specimen is possible to estimate by using crack driving force and d5(CTOD)-R resistance curve of material. Accuracy of numerically determinated points on the curve of crack driving force depends on numerical model and description of mechanical properties of material.

Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD) Testing Method for Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) Toughness of Steel Welds with Particular Reference to Local Inhomogeneity

1994
In the multi-passed weld heat-affected zone (HAZ), the occurrence of mechanical and metallurgical heterogeneity is inevitable. For the fracture toughness evaluation of the steel weld HAZ, the effect of the inhomogeneity shall be considered, particularly in relation to determination of the appropriate testing procedures such as the extraction of test ...
