Effect of Reinforced Concrete Cracking on Chloride Ion Penetration
This article is to explore the effect of conditions of reinforced concrete on chloride ion penetration. The influence of the crack width and the thickness of protective layer were studied.

A new empirical model to predict stress intensity factor for double interacting surface cracks located in hollow cylinder [PDF]
Fracture in cylinders is one of the most popular types of failure. Owing to the impact of production processes, nondestructive testing, and severe operational conditions, etc., cracks exist.

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Evolving fracture patterns: columnar joints, mud cracks, and polygonal terrain [PDF]
When cracks form in a thin contracting layer, they sequentially break the layer into smaller and smaller pieces. A rectilinear crack pattern encodes information about the order of crack formation, as later cracks tend to intersect with earlier cracks at ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Cracks in glass electrical connector headers removed by dry blasting with fine abrasive [PDF]
Cracking that causes pressure leakage in glass connector headers can be alleviated by manipulating the pin bridgewire connectors. This initiates the surface and meniscus cracks.

Reduced models for linearly elastic thin films allowing for fracture, debonding or delamination [PDF]
This work is devoted so show the appearance of different cracking modes in linearly elastic thin film systems by means of an asymptotic analysis as the thickness tends to zero.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
