Effects of glycerol and creatine hyperhydration on doping-relevant blood parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Glycerol is prohibited as an ergogenic aid by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) due to the potential for its plasma expansion properties to have masking effects.

Cardiac Slc25a49‐Mediated Energy Reprogramming Governs Doxorubicin‐Induced Cardiomyopathy through the G6P–AP‐1–Sln Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Doxorubicin‐induced cardiomyopathy involves mitochondrial energy metabolism dysfunction, exacerbated by cardiomyocyte‐specific Slc25a49 deficiency via oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) suppression and glycolysis activation. The Slc25a49–glucose‐6‐phosphate (G6P)–activator protein‐1 (AP‐1) axis drives myocardial injury by upregulating Sln, disrupting ...

Current Concepts and Unresolved Questions in Dietary Protein Requirements and Supplements in Adults

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2017
Protein needs for otherwise healthy individuals older than 19 years are defined by the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) at 0.80 g protein/kg/day. There is no recommendation in the current RDA for subpopulations of older adults or people in various ...

Brain serotonin and dopamine modulators, perceptual responses and endurance performance during exercise in the heat following creatine supplementation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background:The present experiment examined the responses of peripheral modulators and indices of brain serotonin (5-HT) and dopamine (DA) function and their association with perception of effort during prolonged exercise in the heat after creatine (Cr ...

Effects of Creatine Supplementation on Athletic Performance in Soccer Players: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesNutrients, 2019
Studies have shown that creatine supplementation increases intramuscular creatine concentrations, favoring the energy system of phosphagens, which may help explain the observed improvements in high-intensity exercise performance.

EBBP‐Mediated Integrated Stress Response Attenuates Anthracycline‐Induced Cardiotoxicity by Inhibiting the Ferroptosis of Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
EBBP expression is significantly upregulated in DOX‐treated cardiomyocytes. Mechanistically, EBBP interacts with GRP78 to mediate K63‐linked ubiquitination, thereby attenuating the inhibitory GRP78‐PERK interaction and triggering activation of the PERK‐mediated integrated stress response (ISR).

Deletion of TSPO resulted in change of metabolomic profile in retinal pigment epithelial cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Age-related macular degeneration is the main cause of vision loss in the aged population worldwide. Drusen, extracellular lesions formed underneath the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, are a clinical feature of AMD and associated with AMD ...

Interference by creatine with determination of serum creatine kinase.

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1976
We assayed creatine kinase (EC 2.7.3.2) activity in normal serum and in specimens obtained from patients with high serum creatinine by four automated methods: (a) the Technicon SMA 12/60, (b) the Technicon AutoAnalyzer Ii, (c) the Abbott Bichromatic Analyzer, and ( the Aminco Rotochem. Activity blanks were assayed with the AutoAnalyzer II system.

Loss of STARD7 Triggers Metabolic Reprogramming and Cell Cycle Arrest in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breast cancer cells undergo metabolic and transcriptomic reprogramming to support aberrant cell proliferation. Their mitochondria rely on the transfer of phosphatidylcholine from the endoplasmic reticulum to their membranes by STARD7, a candidate upregulated in breast cancer, to be functional.
