Transitions of vehicle control between automated vehicle and driver remain a necessity in the near future. Most research focuses on system-initiated transitions of control. However, drivers may also actively decide to take over without being prompted by the automation.

This paper describes the results of the critical headways surveys at roundabouts in the Russian Federation. The project is finished in 2017 and its main target is to improve the capacity and delays estimation technique. In the period of the USSR the manual of traffic circles and roundabouts design was prepared in the middle of the 80th of last century.

Exchange interaction in the time headway model in critical traffic flow states
16th International IEEE Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2013), 2013Mitigation of traffic congestion is an important challenge for intelligent transportation systems (ITSs). However, congestion in basic sections on interurban expressways is not effectively considered in ITS design because spontaneous generation of congestion has not yet been modeled.

This paper presents a study of the critical gap of return headway on two-lane highway, which could work as the criterion to judge if the vehicle is in the car-following state. The following headway under the car-following state acquired by the critical gap of return headway offers a strong support to the research of two-lane highway capacity with ...

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2013
Critical headway is an important parameter for roundabout design, particularly with regard to analytical modeling approaches. The models that have been developed over the past 30 years were typically based on data obtained from manually reduced video or field observations. This paper reports on the application of wireless magnetometers to collect point

The Comparison of Models for Critical Headways Estimation at Roundabouts
2016The basic parameters that determine traffic capacity on the roundabouts entries include in particular values of main traffic intensity in the collision area on the circular roadway at an entry and two parameters that characterize the process of vehicles entering the roundabout from the entries, such as critical headway and follow-up headway.

Models of Critical Gaps and Follow-up Headways for Turbo Roundabouts
2018Turbo roundabouts are the new generation of circular intersections. They offer numerous advantages, the main of which include relatively high flow capacity and high traffic safety, the latter being only slightly lower than in one-lane roundabouts, still incomparably higher than that of multi-lane intersections.
