On the theory of diamagnetism in granular superconductors

open access: yes, 1994
We study a highly disordered network of superconducting granules linked by weak Josephson junctions in magnetic field and develop a mean field theory for this problem.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Finite-sample Quantiles of The Jarque-Bera Test [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
http://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/acad/sssl/ssslresearch/efwpsThe nite-sample null distribution of the Jarque-Bera Lagrange multiplier test for normality di¤ers considerably from the asymptotic 2 (2).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Beyond the Landau Criterion for Superfluidity

open access: yes, 2005
According to the Landau criterion for superfluidity, a Bose-Einstein condensate flowing with a group velocity smaller than the sound velocity is energetically stable to the presence of perturbing potentials.

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.

Differences in chamber structure contribute to the incidence of venous air trap chamber coagulation during AN69ST-CHF: clinical and in vitro evaluation

open access: yesRenal Replacement Therapy
Background During continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT) in patients with sepsis and critical conditions, circuit coagulation can occur, often for unclear reasons.

Quantum criticality in the coupled two-leg spin ladder Ba2CuTeO6

open access: yes, 2017
We report on zero-field muon spin rotation, electron spin resonance and polarized Raman scattering measurements of the coupled quantum spin ladder Ba2CuTeO6. Zero-field muon spin rotation and electron spin resonance probes disclose a successive crossover
