Intraspecific crop diversity for enhanced crop pollination success. A review
AbstractInterspecific crop diversity (e.g., intercropping) has been documented to promote sustainability in agroecological systems with benefits for pollination services and insect pollinators. These benefits may also be extended to intraspecific crop diversity (e.g., cultivation of multiple genotypes or cultivars in a production space), but no review ...

Why human connection is the true metric of research success
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

The engineering of TBBPA-degrading synthetic microbiomes with integrated strategies
The capability to understand and construct synthetic microbiomes is crucial in biotechnological innovation and application. Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is an emerging pollutant, and the understanding of its biodegradation is very limited.

Optimizing crop diversity across multiple spatial scales
Increasing crop diversity in agricultural landscapes can increase biodiversity but it is unclear how different diversification strategies affect crop diversity across spatial scales. Here we compared different diversification strategies for farmers along

The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

A 14-3-3 modulator of seed weight and quality for unlocking the yield potential of soybean
Seed weight is a key component of crop yield. However, molecular mechanisms underlying soybean seed weight variation remain largely elusive. Here, we identify a major seed weight determining gene Glycine max SMALL SEED 6 (GmSMS6) that encodes a 14-3-3 ...
