SlWRKY14 integrates carotenoid and flavonoid biosynthetic pathways to regulate coloration and quality of tomato fruits

open access: yesCell Reports
Summary: Carotenoids and flavonoids are two principal classes of secondary metabolites in tomato fruit, jointly contributing to pigmentation and nutritional quality. Here, we identified SlWRKY14 as a novel regulator of both these two pathways.

Virtual potato crop modeling: A comparison of genetic coefficients of the DSSAT-SUBSTOR potato model with breeding goals for developing countries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Virtual crop modeling is the representation of future genetic improvements from plant breeding in crop growth simulation models through changes in genetic coefficients or other crop model parameters with the objective of analyzing ex-ante the impacts of ...

Effects of row spacing on soil nitrogen availability, wheat morpho-physiological traits and radiation use efficiency

open access: yesFrontiers in Soil Science, 2022
Optimizing row spacing is an important measure to exploit the full yield potential, achieve a continuous increase in wheat yield and green development without increasing input.

Poplar (Populus spp) growth and crop yields in a silvoarable experiment at three lowland sites in England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
In early 1992, a silvoarable experiment, comprising four poplar (Populus spp.) hybrids (at a spacing of 10 m x 6.4 m) and four arable treatments, was established at three contrasting lowland sites in England.

Farm size and growth in field crop and Dairy farms in France, Hungary and Slovenia

open access: yes, 2013
The aim of this article is to investigate the relationship between size and farm growth. The existing theories of the association between size and farm growth give mixed results by countries and over time.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Predicting Fv/Fm and evaluating cotton drought tolerance using hyperspectral and 1D-CNN

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
The chlorophyll fluorescence parameter Fv/Fm is significant in abiotic plant stress. Current acquisition methods must deal with the dark adaptation of plants, which cannot achieve rapid, real-time, and high-throughput measurements.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Evaluation of the impact of various agricultural practices on nitrate leaching under the root zone of potato and sugar beet using the STICS soil–crop model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The quaternary aquifer of Vitoria-Gasteiz (Basque Country, Northern Spain) is characterised by a shallow water table mainly fed by drainage water, and thus constitutes a vulnerable zone in regards to nitrate pollution. Field studies were performed with a
