Nonequilibrium Period with Emergence of Marangoni Circulations in Meniscus Splitting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The emergence and evolution of Marangoni convection in the meniscus splitting phenomenon are investigated. During the mass circulation of viscous fluids, the confluence and bifurcation of polymer dispersions beneath the evaporative interface lead to the inhomogeneous densification of the skin layer.

Seasonal labour is the most profitable use of labour in broadacre crop dominant farms [PDF]

open access: yes
Labour scarcity and affordability have encouraged many farmers in Western Australia to focus more on cropping than sheep production. Many farmers are opting to run low input livestock systems.

Opportunities for Multiscale Pattern Modulation with Temporally Arrested Breath Figures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This works presents the temporally arrested breath figure methodology and its opportunities for pattern modulation. Through thermodynamic and photochemical phase change handles, this method uses drop‐wise condensation as a dynamic template for fast, accessible and scalable micropatterning.

Effect of different sowing densities in mixed cultivation of blue lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) with spring crops on yield and quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The aim of this investigation was to optimise the yield percentage of blue lupins in mixed cropping systems. Field experiments were conducted at two locations in Northern Germany (Institute of Organic Farming near Hamburg and Institute of Plant and Soil ...

Mitochondria‐Specific Protein Delivery by Protease‐Triggered Release in Plants with Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Polymer‐coated carbon nanotubes were engineered as protease‐responsive nanocarriers for protein delivery in intact plants. GFP cargo can be released by cytosolic phytaspase cleavage and subsequently targeted to mitochondria via an N‐terminal sequence, enabling controlled intracellular protein delivery without tissue damage and demonstrating stable ...

Ultra‐Durable Information‐Encoded Anti‐Counterfeiting Self‐Assembled Nanocrystal Labels

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Ultra‐durable cost‐effective information‐encoded anti‐counterfeiting labels are fabricated to secure semiconductor chips. A novel method is used to self‐assemble colloidal quantum wells (CQWs) into color bars. Information can be encoded spatially, spectrally, and opto‐spatially.

Two independent water balance approaches demonstrate extensive use of groundwater by rainfed crops

open access: yesAgricultural Water Management
In the rainfed cropland of the U.S. Corn Belt effective management requires an understanding of where crop water originates. Thus, quantification of where in the subsurface crops extract water from is warranted.

Corn Cropping Systems to Improve Economic and Environmental Health [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In 2017, UVM Extension’s Northwest Crops & Soils Program continued a multi-year trial at Borderview Research Farm in Alburgh, VT to assess the impact of corn cropping systems on overall health and productivity of the crop and soil.
