AbstractBacillus amyloliquefaciens H produces a restriction endonuclease enzyme BamHl which is heat labile even at low temperatures. Studies were conducted to enhance thermal stability of BamHl using cross‐linking reagents, namely, glutaraldehyde, dimethyl adipimidate (DMA), dimethyl suberimidate (DMS), and dimethyl 3,3′‐dithiobispropionimidate (DTBP).

Effect of protein cross-linking reagents on membrane currents of squid axon

The effects of the protein cross-linking reagents glutaraldehyde, tannic acid, and formaldehyde were examined in voltage-clamped and internally perfused squid axons. All three reagents reduced sodium and potassium currents and reduced or abolished sodium inactivation. Glutaraldehyde and tannic acid produced an alteration of potassium current kinetics.

The oligomeric form of the paramyxovirus simian virus 5 (SV5) fusion (F) glycoprotein has been examined by using chemical cross-linking and sucrose density gradient fractionation. In addition, chemical cross-linking was used to examine the kinetics of assembly of the F oligomer.
