Biocidal Agents Used for Disinfection Can Enhance Antibiotic Resistance in Gram-Negative Species

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2018
Biocidal agents used for disinfection are usually not suspected to enhance cross-resistance to antibiotics. The aim of this review was therefore to evaluate the effect of 13 biocidal agents at sublethal concentrations on antibiotic resistance in Gram ...

Autophagy and mitophagy in pancreatic β‐cell homeostasis and their involvement in diabetes pathophysiology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review focuses on the role of autophagy and mitophagy in maintaining pancreatic β‐cell function and homeostasis. We discuss how genetic defects affecting these pathways contribute to the development of type 1, type 2, monogenic, and gestational diabetes. We further explore their potential as therapeutic targets. Created in BioRender.

Convergent adaptive architectures linking chemoresistance and radioresistance in chemoradiotherapy: a systems-level perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
BackgroundChemoradiotherapy (CRT) remains a cornerstone of treatment for multiple solid malignancies; however, durable disease control is frequently limited by the emergence of resistance. While chemoresistance and radioresistance have traditionally been

Golgi enzymes are retrieved from the plasma membrane to the trans‐Golgi network

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Golgi enzymes are traditionally considered resident proteins retained within the Golgi apparatus. Here, we demonstrate that a subset transiently reaches the cell surface and is subsequently retrieved to the trans‐Golgi network via retrograde transport. Using a nanobody‐based toolkit, we uncover a dynamic trafficking cycle of several Golgi enzymes.

Azole-Driven Cross-Resistance and Transporter Gene Expression in Malassezia Yeasts

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Malassezia are commensal lipid dependent yeasts which can cause opportunistic skin infection. Topical imidazole antifungals such as clotrimazole and ketoconazole are the frontline treatment.

Synergistic perspectives—How single‐molecule biophysics complement biochemical understanding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, we discuss how ensemble biochemistry and single‐molecule approaches are complementary, outline commonly used single‐molecule techniques, and illustrate their relevance through two representative case studies: chromatin organization by SMC complexes and pathway choice during DNA double‐strand break repair.

Characterization of ALS Inhibitor Resistance in Alopecurus myosuroides: Primary Role of Trp574Leu and Secondary Contributions of Additional Mutations and Metabolism

open access: yesWeed Technology
Blackgrass is a highly competitive weed in wheat fields and has increasingly evolved resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS)-inhibiting herbicides. Ten field populations were screened, resulting in the selection of one highly resistant population (R-06)

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Aneuploidy underlies brefeldin A-induced antifungal drug resistance in Cryptococcus neoformans

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
Cryptococcus neoformans is at the top of the list of “most wanted” human pathogens. Only three classes of antifungal drugs are available for the treatment of cryptococcosis.

Chlorantraniliprole selection, synergism and cross-resistance to various insecticides in tomato pinworm, Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) [PDF]

open access: yesنامه انجمن حشره‌شناسی ایران
Tuta absoluta is an invasive polyphagous pest recently reported on tomato, brinjal, and potato in India. It has acquired resistance to many chemical insecticides under field control.
