The allylic chalcogen effect in olefin metathesis
Olefin metathesis has emerged as a powerful tool in organic synthesis. The activating effect of an allylic hydroxy group in metathesis has been known for more than 10 years, and many organic chemists have taken advantage of this positive influence for ...

Imparting functional variety to cellulose ethers via olefin cross-metathesis
Olefin cross-metathesis is a valuable new approach for imparting functional variety to cellulose ethers. Starting from commercially available ethyl cellulose, terminally unsaturated alkyl groups were appended as metathesis handles by reaction with allyl ...

The benzylidyne complex [PhC≡W{OSi(OtBu)3 }3 ] (1) catalyzed the cross-metathesis between 1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)-1,3-butadiyne (2) and symmetrical 1,3-diynes (3) efficiently, which gave access to TMS-capped 1,3-diynes RC≡C-C≡CSiMe3 (4).

Beyond catalyst deactivation: cross-metathesis involving olefins containing N-heteroaromatics
Alkenes containing N-heteroaromatics are known to be poor partners in cross-metathesis reactions, probably due to catalyst deactivation caused by the presence of a nitrogen atom.

Direct synthesis of Z-alkenyl halides through catalytic cross-metathesis. [PDF]
Olefin metathesis has had a large impact on modern organic chemistry, but important shortcomings remain: for example, the lack of efficient processes that can be used to generate acyclic alkenyl halides.

Template-Directed Olefin Cross Metathesis
[reaction: see text] A template containing two secondary dialkylammonium ion recognition sites for encirclement by olefin-bearing dibenzo[24]crown-8 derivatives has been used to promote olefin cross metatheses with ruthenium-alkylidene catalysts.

Efficient catalytic alkyne metathesis with a fluoroalkoxy-supported ditungsten(III) complex
The molybdenum and tungsten complexes M2(OR)6 (Mo2F6, M = Mo, R = C(CF3)2Me; W2F3, M = W, R = OC(CF3)Me2) were synthesized as bimetallic congeners of the highly active alkyne metathesis catalysts [MesC≡M{OC(CF3)nMe3−n}] (MoF6, M = Mo, n = 2; WF3, M = W ...

SI‐bioATRP in Mesoporous Silica for Size‐Exclusion Driven Local Polymer Placement
An enzyme‐catalyzed surface‐initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI‐bioATRP) of an anionic monomer within mesoporous silica particles, using hemoglobin as a catalyst, allows for controlling the location of the formed polymer via size‐exclusion effects between the nanopores and the biomacromolecules, thereby opening routes to functional ...
