Genetic Control of Soybean Resistance to Soybean Pod Sucker (Riptortus Linearis L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Riptortus linearis represents the most common pod sucking pest on soybean. Genetic studies on inheritance of resistance to the pest are needed. The study used B4400 and B3802 genotypes as resistant parents, Tambora as susceptible parent.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The system of genetic exchange in Trypanosoma brucei and other trypanosomatids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this chapter, we discuss our current understanding of the systems of genetic exchange in trypanosomatids and the im-pact the recent genome projects have had on this area of research.

Chromosomal anchoring of linkage groups and identification of wing size QTL using markers and FISH probes derived from microdissected chromosomes in Nasonia(Pteromalidae : Hymenoptera) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Nasonia vitripennis is a small parasitic hymenopteran with a 50-year history of genetic work including linkage mapping with mutant and molecular markers. For the first time we are now able to anchor linkage groups to specific chromosomes.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Inheritance of resistance to Cotton leaf curl virus in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

open access: yesPlant Protection Science, 2007
Resistance to Cotton leaf curl virus (CLCuV) in three cultivars of cotton was investigated in crosses with a susceptible cultivar using generation mean analysis.

Optimized breeding strategies to harness genetic resources with different performance levels

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2020
Background The narrow genetic base of elite germplasm compromises long-term genetic gain and increases the vulnerability to biotic and abiotic stresses in unpredictable environmental conditions. Therefore, an efficient strategy is required to broaden the

Isolation and Characterization of Glycerol-3-Phosphate Dehydrogenase-Defective Mutants of \u3cem\u3eNeurospora crassa\u3c/em\u3e [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
Three glycerol-nonutilizing mutants deficient in the mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.99.5) were isolated from inlts derivatives of Neurospora crassa following inositolless death at elevated temperatures on minimal glycerol ...

Addressing Cross-Specialty Clinical Genetics Education Needs

open access: yesJournal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions
Introduction: Advances in genomics are transforming clinical practice, but there are too few genetics professionals to meet increasing demand. Moreover, many nongeneticist clinicians feel unprepared to incorporate genetics into practice.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
