Exploring tricine as a novel red cell cryopreservative: Lessons and future directions

open access: yesVox Sanguinis, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives Cryopreservation allows for storage of red blood cells (RBCs) beyond the standard 35‐day period. Current glycerol‐based methods are labour‐intensive and scale‐limited in application. Tricine has been identified as a potential alternative cryoprotectant (CPA), demonstrating efficacy in sheep RBC.

Acute intermittent hypoxia in neonatal rodent central nervous system facilitates respiratory frequency through the recruitment of hypothalamic areas

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Moderate and acute intermittent hypoxia (IH) facilitates respiration in adults, mostly by recruiting peripheral chemo‐/baroreceptors. As central chemoreceptors are widely expressed in immature brains, we hypothesized that IH modulates respiration at birth through a purely neurogenic mechanism involving the hypothalamus.

Bioenergetic profiles and respiratory control in mitochondrial physiology: Precision analysis of oxidative phosphorylation

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) is fundamental to mitochondrial function. Respirometry with living cells provides limited information compared to precision OXPHOS analysis with mitochondrial preparations, including isolated mitochondria, tissue homogenates, permeabilized tissues, and permeabilized cells.
