Fines Formation (and Prevention) in Seeded Precipitation Processes

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
An overview of three studies on seeded precipitation in a fluidised bed reactor (FBR) is presented. The objective of using the FBR is to remove dissolved metals as precipitated metal salts onto a seed surface.

Absence of Wigner Crystallization in Graphene

open access: yes, 2006
Graphene, a single sheet of graphite, has attracted tremendous attention due to recent experiments which demonstrate that carriers in it are described by massless fermions with linear dispersion.

Sustainable Synthesis of Bio‐Based Magnetic and Conductive Wood for Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A wood‐based magnetic and conductive material called Magwood (MW), capable of blocking almost 99.99% of electromagnetic waves (in the X‐band frequency range), is synthesized using a simple, solvent‐free process. MW is lightweight, resists water, and is flame‐retardant, making it a promising alternative for shielding electronics. The rapid proliferation

Isothermal Crystallization Kinetics of Poly(lactic acid) Stereocomplex/Graphene Nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2017
The isothermal crystallization kinetics of PLA stereocomplex (scPLA) and scPLA/graphene oxide nanocomposites was investigated. scPLA was prepared by symmetric blending the two isomers, PLLA and PDLA and the scPLA nanocomposite by polymerization of the ...

Human versus Robots in the Discovery and Crystallization of Gigantic Polyoxometalates

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, 2017
The discovery of new gigantic molecules formed by self‐assembly and crystal growth is challenging as it combines two contingent events; first is the formation of a new molecule, and second its crystallization.

Thermoelectric Modules Incorporating MgAgSb and Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 Synthesized Using a Melting Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A scalable synthesis method for a thermoelectric material of MgAgSb is established. A thermoelectric power module of MgAgSb/Mg3(Sb,Bi)2 is fabricated, showing the conversion efficiency of 7.4% at ΔT = 315 K. The performance is comparable to conventional Bi2Te3 modules when they are operated with an air‐cooled heat exchanger.

Crystallization: Colloidal suspense [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
According to classical nucleation theory, a crystal grows from a small nucleus that already bears the symmetry of its end phase - but experiments with colloids now reveal that, from an amorphous precursor, crystallites with different structures can ...

Removing Homocoupling Defects in Alkoxy/Alkyl‐PBTTT Enhances Polymer:Fullerene Co‐Crystal Formation and Stability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Timescales of crystallization and viscous flow of the bulk glass-forming Zr-Ti-Ni-Cu-Be alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Crystallization behavior and equilibrium viscosity of a series of alloys in the Zr-Ti-Cu-Ni-Be system are studied using multiple techniques to determine the various contributions to glass-forming ability.

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.
