Cyclochlorotine Hydroxylase CctR Reveals DUF3328 as a Family of Copper‐Dependent Metalloenzymes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
DUF3328 is an enigmatic enzyme family implicated in diverse transformations in fungal natural product biosynthesis, yet its functions remain largely underexplored. Through biochemical characterization of the cyclochlorotine hydroxylase CctR, we define DUF3328 as a family of copper‐dependent metalloenzymes.

Smiles‐Truce Cascades Enable Heteroaryl Cyclopropane and Sultine Synthesis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A triple C─C cascade approach to the synthesis of heteroaryl cyclopropanes is described. The reaction is metal‐free, uses simple starting materials, and presents a new retrosynthetic approach for heteroaryl cyclopropane synthesis. A change of substituent creates a new route to sultines, under‐explored motifs in medicinal chemistry. Abstract We describe

The Pentafluorophenyl Cation: A Superelectrophile and Diradical

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
From radical to diradical cation. Photoionization (PI) of the thermally generated pentafluorophenyl radical yields the pentafluorophenyl cation in the gas phase. This cation is found to be a diradical with nearly degenerate open‐shell singlet and triplet ground states, and it is even more unstable than the parent phenyl cation by ∼40 kcal mol−1 ...
