Inflammation and mechanical force‐induced bone remodeling

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Periodontitis arises from imbalanced host–microbe interactions, leading to dysbiosis and destructive inflammation. The host's innate and adaptive immune responses produce pro‐inflammatory mediators that stimulate destructive events, which cause loss of alveolar bone and connective tissue attachment.

Of mice and men—The emerging oral–gut–brain axis of health and disease

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Oral health's inextricable links to systemic health are highlighted by the emerging oral–gut–brain axis and other well‐known axes. There is growing evidence of a complex oral–gut–brain axis linking mouth and gut microbiomes with the central nervous system.

Understanding extracellular vesicles in antiaging

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Aging is a multifactorial process marked by gradual cellular dysregulation, regulated by hallmarks, including genomic instability, mitochondrial dysregulation, and chronic inflammation. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), especially exosomes, have emerged as pivotal mediators of cell‐to‐cell communication with potential roles in both ...

Metabolic reprogramming of the immune response in periodontitis

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Periodontitis, a highly prevalent chronic inflammatory disease, is characterized by the progressive destruction of the tooth‐supporting tissues, ultimately causing tooth loss. In recent years, the emerging field of immunometabolism has revealed that immune cell function is tightly regulated by intracellular metabolic pathways that ...

Challenges of Dengue in Hematological Disease Patients: Descriptive Analysis From the DANGO Registry During the 2023–2024 Outbreak in Argentina

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, EarlyView.
During the 2023–2024 Argentine dengue outbreak, 33 patients with hematological disease showed high complication rates, frequent hospitalization (64%), severe thrombocytopenia (90%), and 6% dengue‐attributable mortality. Transfusion‐associated cases were documented.

Cerebrospinal Fluid Creatine Kinase as a Biomarker in Dogs With Neurologic Disease: A Multivariate Analysis to Guide Future Directions

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Creatine kinase (CK) is typically associated with skeletal muscle injury, but elevated CK in blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may also be reflective of central nervous system damage. Previous research has therefore explored the role of CK as a biomarker of neurologic disease in veterinary patients.

Differential intestinal injury and unchanged systemic inflammatory responses to leg and whole‐body passive hyperthermia in healthy humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hyperthermia can cause intestinal injury, facilitating endotoxin translocation and an inflammatory response that has been associated with heat illness. However, the potential occurrence of these responses has been incompletely reported during passive hyperthermia, and the independent effect of hyperthermia is equivocal.

Brain strain: Blood flow and metabolism in environmental extremes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This narrative review compares and contrasts the most commonly encountered environmental stressors on human cerebrovascular functioning. From high altitude and space, extreme apnoea, heat and cold stress, the impact of these stressors on the regulation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and oxygen metabolism (CMRO2${\mathrm{CM}}{{\mathrm{R}}_ ...

Thermoregulatory and plasma neurobiomarker responses to heat tolerance assessment in exertional heat illness and matched controls

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Exercise in the heat and elevated tissue temperature are associated with neuronal stress and changes in blood–brain barrier (BBB) function. More severe thermal insult may manifest as exertional heat illness (EHI) and complication by central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction may persist post‐EHI.
