Effect of αs1-casein (CSN1S1) genotype on milk CSN1S1 content in Malagueña and Murciano-Granadina goats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Research, 2008
There is substantial evidence showing that the polymorphism of the goat αs1-casein (CSN1S1) gene has a major effect on milk protein, casein and fat content as well as on cheese yield. However, its influence on the synthesis rate of CSN1S1 has been less studied, with measurements only available in French breeds.

Comparative analysis of gene sequence of goat CSN1S1 F and N alleles and characterization of CSN1S1 transcript variants in mammary gland [PDF]

open access: yesGene, 2005
In this paper, we report the full characterization, at DNA and RNA level, of the defective goat CSN1S1 F and N alleles and an extensive comparison with the A allele counterpart. By utilizing genomic DNA as template, we amplified the whole CSN1S1 gene plus 1972/3 nucleotides of the 5' region plus 610 nucleotides of the 3' region of the goat CSN1S1 N and

Genomics and proteomics of deleted ovine CSN1S1∗I [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Dairy Journal, 2010
Abstract Ovine α s1 -casein ( CSN1S1 ) allele I ( CSN1S1 ∗ I ) was characterized at the molecular genetic and protein level. Sequencing of CSN1S1 cDNA and mature protein showed the absence of exon 7 from CSN1S1 ∗ I in comparison with the C ″ genetic variant of the C phenotype. This allelic aberration is correlated with a sequence difference in

Genetic polymorphism at the CSN1S1 gene in Girgentana dairy goat breed [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Production Science, 2013
The aim of this work was to evaluate the variability of the as1-casein locus in the endangered Girgentana dairy goat breed in order to define genetic improvement and a conservation program for this breed. The study was performed on 200 dairy goats by means of different PCR protocols. The most frequent alleles were A (0.590) and F (0.290) followed by B (

Association of the CSN1S1 gene polymorphism with milk composition traits in Jamunapari goat [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Animal Research, 2018
The genetic polymorphism of the CSN1S1 (casein alpha-s1) locus was investigated in Jamunapari goat breed by Sodium Dodicyle Sulphate – Poly Acrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and Polymerase Chain Reaction – Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). A total of 122 milk and blood samples were collected. The SDS-PAGE pattern revealed the

The autochthonous agerolese breed: genetic structure at CSN1S1 and CSN3 loci. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This work arises as targets the genetic characterization at CSN1S1 and CSN3 loci, using techniques of molecular biology, of the agerolese cattle, an autochthonous genetic type reared in Campania, which is at risk of extinction. In particular, we proceeded to the identification of the CSN1S1 G and CSN3 B allele carriers, whose choice was dictated by the ...

A reliable method for characterization of the goat CSN1S1 E allele

Livestock Science, 2009
Abstract Goat αs 1 -casein, coded by the CSN1S1 gene, is a highly polymorphic protein. The E allele is characterized by the insertion of a long interspersed nuclear element (LINE) in the 19th exon of the gene. This insertion is probably responsible for the reduced levels of αs 1 -casein found in milk from animals expressing the E allele.

Molecular characterization of the goat CSN1S101 allele

Journal of Dairy Research, 2003
Caseins (αs1, β, αs2, e κ) represent about 80% of the whole protein content of ruminant milk. Each of these proteins is encoded by single copy genes (CSN1S1, CSN2, CSN1S2 and CSN3, respectively) clustered on a ∼200-kb segment of chromosome 6 (Ferretti et al. 1990; Gallagher et al. 1994) in the order: CSN1S1, CSN2, CSN1S2 and CSN3 (Mercier & Vilotte,
