Proposal for a new CTOD calculation formula
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2016Abstract A new CTOD calculation method is investigated in this work, considering the variation of crack tip blunting due to strain hardening. The calculation formula is constructed assuming that CTOD 45FEM based on three-dimensional elasto-plastic FEM is the target CTOD to be calibrated. A new factor f is introduced to correct the plastic term. In

A review of the CTOA/CTOD fracture criterion
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2003Abstract The crack-tip-opening angle or displacement (CTOA/CTOD) fracture criterion is one of the oldest fracture criteria applied to fracture of metallic materials with cracks. During the past two decades, the use of elastic–plastic finite-element analyses to simulate fracture of laboratory specimens and structural components using the CTOA ...

An improvement of CTOD criterion for ductile fracture
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1992Abstract In this paper a relationship between the critical crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) at crack initiation δ ti and the stress triaxiality σ m / \ gs is derived based on the damage mechanics criterion for ductile fracture, and a modified crack tip parameter δ ti ∗ and a modified CTOD criterion are ...

Modifications To The CTOD Design Curve Approach
Offshore Technology Conference, 1986ABSTRACT The existing crack tip opening displacement (CTOD) design curve approach is summarised, and new proposals are described for the assessment of finite width plates, plain materials and welded joints that have been post-welded heat treated.

Study of Methods for CTOD Testing of Weldments
1990Several precracking methods for crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD) testing of weldments were studied, including as local precompression, reverse bending, and high R-ratio fatigue. The precracking procedure could influence the validity of the precrack shape.

Numerical Determination of Fatigue Threshold from CTOD
Solid State Phenomena, 2016The experimental procedure to obtain valid and comparable values of ΔKth is laborious and time consuming. The objective of this work is to determine ΔKth using a numerical approach. The CTOD is plotted versus load, and the fatigue threshold corresponds to the onset of plastic deformation.

Numerical determination of plastic
AbstractIn previous works, a da/dN versus plastic crack tip opening displacement model was proposed to study fatigue crack growth. The plastic crack tip opening displacement, δp, which quantifies the crack tip plastic deformation, is determined numerically using the finite element method.

The relationship between ctod, J and microstructural inhomogeneity
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1994Abstract The fracture behaviour of two types of welds with microstructural inhomogeneity is discussed using the concept of the specific energy γ pk . The relationship between the macroscopic fracture parameters, e.g. CTOD and J -integral, and the microstructural inhomogeneity is obtained.

On the influence of wet underwater welding on CTOD-δ5
International Journal of Fracture, 1999The influence of wet underwater welding on the crack tip opening displacement CTOD-δ5 is investigated in this paper. The welding process is numerically simulated. The instationary temperature field and welding residual stresses are calculated using the finite element method (FEM).

CTOD Testing of HAZ and Analysis of Pop-In Behavior
Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, 1990Abstract HAZ CTOD tests were carried out on nonmatching bead on plate SAW weldments at room temperature. The effects of the notch position and weld metal matching on the HAZ toughness were studied by taking weld metals with three strength levels (austenitic, ferritic and martensitic weld metals). The notches were located parallel (L-type)
