Different AT-rich satellite DNAs in Cucurbita pepo and Cucurbita maxima
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1986The AT-rich highly repeated satellite DNA of Cucurbita pepo (zucchini) and Cucurbita maxima (pumpkin) were cloned and their DNA structure was investigated. DNA sequencing revealed that the repeat length of satellite DNA in Cucurbita pepo is 349-352 base pairs. The percentage of AT-base pairs is about 61%.

Anther Culture in Cucurbita Species
2021Production of homozygous pure parental lines is the first stage of hybrid vegetable breeding. Unfortunately, producing pure lines takes a long time by classical breeding methods, especially in open-pollinated vegetable species, and this period can be up to 8-10 years.

Adenosine triphosphatase in the phloem of Cucurbita
Planta, 1973The distribution of adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) activity in the phloem of petioles and minor veins of Cucurbita maxima has been studied using a lead phosphate precipitation procedure. ATPase activity was localized in sieve elements, companion cells and parenchyma cells.

An Acetocarmine Technic forCucurbita
Stain Technology, 1954Staminate Cucurbita buds undergoing meiosis are fixed for 12–24 hours in a solution containing 3 parts of 95% alcohol, 1 part of acetocarmine to which iron acetate has been added, and a flake of rusted iron. After fixation the buds are washed in 95% alcohol and stored in 95% alcohol with the iron flake for 5-10 days.

Resistance in Cucurbita pepo and Cucurbita maxima germplasms to cucumber mosaic virus
Genetic Resources and Crop Evolution, 1996A total of 384 Cucurbita pepo and Cucurbita maxima accessions were evaluated in growth chambers or glasshouse tests for resistance to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). Seedlings were mechanically inoculated at the cotyledon stage, and scored for symptoms on cotyledons and true leaves 7 and 18 days after inoculation.
