Introduction: Cultural Landscapes: Twenty-First Century Conservation Opportunities and Challenges

open access: yes, 2020
New approaches to both cultural landscapes and historic urban landscapes increasingly recognize the need to guide future change, rather than simply protecting the fabric of the past.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

ABORIGINE CULTURAL LANDSCAPES OF THE RUSSIAN ARCTIC: IDENTIFICATION AND MAPPING

open access: yesInterCarto. InterGIS, 2013
Aborigine cultural landscapes of the Russian Arctic are preserved in two forms: really existing and virtual. Because of their original structure and progressive process of dissipation they must be regarded as natural-cultural heritage.

The railway heritage in Mexico and its role in the configuration of industrial and cultural landscapes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The construction of the railways in Mexico was an event of national importance, not only for its role in the economic history, but for their contribution in shaping cultural landscapes of industrial character.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Identification Model of Traditional Village Cultural Landscape Elements and Its Application from the Perspective of Living Heritage—A Case Study of Chentian Village in Wuhan

open access: yesBuildings
At present, there are limitations in the cognition of the elements of traditional village cultural landscapes, less excavation of the elements of production-type cultural landscapes, little attention to the layering of cultural landscapes in different ...

The Heritage from Cultural Turn to Inclusive Turn. The Cultural and Sacred Landscapes of the UNESCO List: a Sustainable Track to overcome the Dichotomy between Tangible and Intangible Heritage? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The term ‘heritage’ has considerably changed its meaning over time, especially in recent decades and among contemporary local communities, partially owing to the instruments developed by the UNESCO jointly with the World Heritage Center.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Du socle au paysage : essai pour un nouveau regard sur les reliefs

open access: yesProjets de Paysage, 2012
This paper studies the geomorphic component of “landscapes artialisation” by studying the major landforms in landscapes’ representations. Landforms are considered here as landscapes patterns constituting the "geographical basement " for landscape painter,
