Normal versus pathological cardiac fibroblast-derived extracellular matrix differentially modulates cardiosphere-derived cell paracrine properties and commitment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Human resident cardiac progenitor cells (CPCs) isolated as cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs) are under clinical evaluation as a therapeutic product for cardiac regenerative medicine.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Adipocyte secreted factors enhance aggressiveness of prostate carcinoma cells.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Obesity has been associated with increased incidence and risk of mortality of prostate cancer. One of the proposed mechanisms underlying this risk association is the change in adipokines expression that could promote the development and progression of ...

Inhibition of Ultraviolet B-induced Apoptosis in Fibroblasts by Human Umbilical Cord Blood Mesenchymal Stem Cell Conditioned Media via the Phosphatidylinositol-3-Kinase/Akt Pathway [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Medical Sciences
Background: Ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation induces photoaging and apoptosis in various cell types. Inhibition of UVB-induced apoptotic pathways has been explored in different apoptotic cascades.

Cell-cell communication between Mouse mammary epithelial cells and 3T3-L1 preadipocytes: effect on triglyceride accumulation and cell proliferation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Interaction between parenchyma and stroma is essential for organogenesis, morphogenesis, and differentiation. Mammary gland has being the chosen model for developmental biologist because the most striking changes in morphology and function take place ...

Inhibition of tumor necrosis factor α–stimulated monocyte adhesion to human aortic endothelial cells by AMP-activated protein kinase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objective— Proatherosclerotic adhesion of leukocytes to the endothelium is attenuated by NO. As AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) regulates endothelial NO synthesis, we investigated the modulation of adhesion to cultured human aortic

Divergent Trophic Actions of Glioma Conditioned Media on Cultured Rat Hippocampal Neurons.

open access: yesBiological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 1994
Neuron-glia interaction is considered to be important for the establishment and maintenance of neuronal shape and polarity during development. Glial cells release a number of trophic factors, many of which have not been fully characterized. In the present study, the trophic influences of conditioned media (CMs) of four glioma cell lines (T98G, Hs683 ...

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Discrimination and Aggregative Patterns among and between populations of Entamoeba spp. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Kin recognition facilitates the evolution of cooperation in animals, but its relevance in microorganisms and their behavior toward relatives remains unclear.

Conditioned Media from Microvascular Endothelial Cells Cultured in Simulated Microgravity Inhibit Osteoblast Activity

open access: yesBioMed Research International, 2014
Background and Aims. Gravity contributes to the maintenance of bone integrity. Accordingly, weightlessness conditions during space flight accelerate bone loss and experimental models in real and simulated microgravity show decreased osteoblastic and increased osteoclastic activities.
