Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Nature Preschools: Putting Nature at the Heart of Early Childhood Education

open access: yesOccasional Paper Series, 2016
Describes nature preschools as places that go beyond the typical preschool teachings within the classroom. Activities at nature preschools may include child-centered outdoor investigations, unstructured play and exploration in rich outdoor settings ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Curriculum Inquiry as a Contextualised Social Practice within an Activity System

open access: yesProgressio
In educational literature, ample curriculum models adopt product-oriented approaches based on linear, sequential design, review and renewal processes. Correspondingly, managerialism perspectives imposed by external and internal stakeholders, national policy frameworks and quality assurance mechanisms emphasise the technicalities of curriculum inquiry ...

Intrapatient tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution in an autopsy study of metastatic salivary gland cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumour heterogeneity and clonal evolution of metastatic salivary gland cancer were evaluated in two patients with adenoid carcinoma and one patient with myoepithelial carcinoma. Radiology‐guided autopsy enabled multi‐region sampling (total samples n = 149), followed by whole‐genome sequencing and phylogenetic reconstruction (17 tumour samples, 4–7 per ...

Predictive and prognostic biomarkers of Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin therapy failure in bladder cancer patients: A systematic review

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
High‐risk bladder cancer is typically treated with Bacillus Calmette‐Guérin (BCG), but 30–40% of patients relapse. No FDA‐ or CE‐approved biomarkers currently predict or prognosticate BCG failure. We systematically reviewed the literature and identified 72 eligible studies, revealing several promising biomarkers associated with BCG treatment response ...
