Laryngeal Transplantation in Cancer Patients: Evaluation of Surgical Outcomes and Functional Recovery

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
Our pilot clinical study in laryngeal transplantation achieved divergent outcomes: two cases maintained functional speech/swallowing with around 2 year graft survival and have been ongoing, while two succumbed to sepsis (10mo) and hemorrhagic recurrence (11mo).

The impact of pericardial approach and myocardial protection onto postoperative right ventricle function reduction

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2018
Background The reduction of RV function after cardiac surgery is a well-known phenomenon. It could persist up-to one year after the operation and often leads to an incomplete recovery at follow-up echocardiographic control.

A role for epithelium‐derived 6‐nitrodopamine on human ureter contractility

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 10, Page 2360-2375, May 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose To investigate the basal release of 6‐nitrodopamine (6‐ND) from human isolated ureter and the role of this novel catecholamine in the ureter contractility. Experimental Approach Ureters from 67 brain‐dead organ donors (40 males and 27 females) were used during kidney transplantation procedures.

Comparative Analysis of Pressure Drop (Δp): Hemodynamic Performance of Three Commercial Oxygenators During Cardiopulmonary Bypass

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 4, Page 564-571, April 2026.
In this prospective study, a total of 60 patients were divided into three groups of 20 to compare the pressure drop (Δp) across three different oxygenators during cardiopulmonary bypass. The aim of this comparison was to enable evidence‐based optimization of the heart‐lung machine setup in order to minimize potential influencing factors and thereby ...

Custodiol® supplemented with synthetic human relaxin decreases ischemia-reperfusion injury after porcine kidney transplantation /

open access: yes, 2021
Objective. Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is inevitable after kidney transplantation (KT), impairing outcomes. Relaxin-2 (RLX) is a promising insulin-related peptide hormone that protects against renal IRI in rodents, although large animal models are ...

Effect of prolonged cardiac graft preservation on adhesion protein activation and synthetic endothelial function

open access: yesВестник трансплантологии и искусственных органов
Objective: to conduct a comparative study of the efficacy of Custodiol® cardioplegia (Custodiol HTK, Dr. Franz Köhler Chemie GmbH, Bensheim, Germany) and normothermic autoperfusion of heart graft as a part of an ex vivo cardiopulmonary complex (CPC ...

Vasoreactivity as a Measure of Kidney Viability During Ex Vivo Normothermic Machine Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 2, Page 281-290, February 2026.
This study aimed to investigate the influence of warm ischemic injury on renal vascular responsiveness to vasoactive drugs during normothermic machine perfusion (NMP). We found that the vascular responses to dopamine and norepinephrine could be used as objective indicators to assess kidney viability during NMP.

Early Outcomes of Totally Endoscopic Repair of Partial Atrioventricular Septal Defect in Adults Using A 3D Visualization System

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Objective We aimed to describe the surgical technique and clinical outcomes of totally endoscopic repair of partial atrioventricular septal defect using a 3D visualization system. Methods The study included 27 patients with a mean age of 42.5 years, and a male‐to‐female ratio of 1: 2, who underwent totally endoscopic repair of partial atrioventricular ...

Custodiol-N, the novel cardioplegic solution reduces ischemia/reperfusion injury after cardiopulmonary bypass

open access: yes, 2015
Backgrounds: On the basis of Custodiol preservation and cardioplegic solution a novel cardioplegic solution was developed to improve the postischemic cardiac and endothelial function.

Impact of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Versus Conventional OPEN Valve Surgery on Myocardial Protection

open access: yesThe Heart Surgery Forum
Background: Minimally invasive cardiac surgery (MICS) offers several advantages that can be particularly beneficial for older patients. However, nothing is currently known about the impact of MICS on myocardial protection.
