Scaffold hopping strategy used to develop chalcones structure‐related to the avobenzone tautomer. Positive aspects of 2‐hydroxychalcones are highlighted. Abstract Chalcones are α,β‐unsaturated ketones with extended π‐conjugation, making them promising scaffolds for the development of organic UV filters.

A low‐cost handheld device for monitoring cutaneous photosensitivity

The cutaneous photosensitivity detection (CPD) device is a handheld contact‐based measurement device using 405 nm excitation and red fluorescence detection for monitoring skin phototoxicity risk after photodynamic therapy (PDT) procedures involving systemic aminolaevulinic acid (ALA) induced protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) photosensitization.

UV signature mutation hyperhotspots as genomic dosimeters

Recurrent UV signature mutations are a sensitive and specific indicator of sun exposure. UV signature mutations (C → T mutations at dipyrimidine sites) were quantified using Duplex Sequencing and a stringent mutation calling protocol to identify true low‐abundance mutations.
