Multiobjective Optimization of Tool Geometric Parameters Using Genetic Algorithm

open access: yesComplexity, 2018
Tool geometric parameters have a huge impact on tool wear. Up to now, there are only a few researches on tool geometric parameters and optimization, and the single objective function of parameter optimization used by researchers during high-speed ...

An investigation on the mechanics of nanometric cutting and the development of its test-bed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The mechanics of machining at a very small depth of cut (100 nm or less) is not well understood. The chip formation physics, cutting forces generation, resulting temperatures and the size effects significantly affect the efficiency of the process and ...

Microfluidic electro‐viscoelastic manipulation of extracellular vesicles

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The electro‐viscoelastic manipulation as a potential method for separation of particles based on size. The particles introduced as a sheath flow migrate to the channel center under the influence of simultaneously applied electric field and pressure driven flow.

Chaotic vibrations in a regenerative cutting process

open access: yes, 2001
We have analyzed vibrations generated in an orthogonal cutting process. Using a simple one degree of freedom model of the regenerative cutting we have observed the complex behaviour of the system.

A unified model for Duchenne muscular dystrophy gene involvement in cancer: context‐dependent tumour suppression and oncogenicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We propose a context‐dependent model where the Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) gene acts as a tumour suppressor in aggressive tumours and as an oncogene in less aggressive ones. We propose this model as a unified framework to explain the opposing survival associations with DMD expression and to guide experimental exploration of the dual role of DMD ...

Diffusion‐based size determination of solute particles: a method adapted for postsynaptic proteins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We present a diffusion‐based approach for measuring the size of macromolecules and their complexes, and demonstrate its use on postsynaptic proteins. The method requires fluorescein‐labelled protein samples, a microfluidic device that maintains laminar flow for said samples, a microscope recording the emitted fluorescent signals, and an analytic ...

Electrical pulse stimulation reflecting the episodic nature of real‐life exercise modulates metabolic and secretory profile of primary human myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Here, we introduced an intermittent electrical stimulation protocol mimicking the episodic nature of real‐life exercise in vitro by alternating low‐ and high‐frequency stimulation. In comparison with widely used continuous stimulation, it enhanced the rate of glucose and fatty acid oxidation, but not the myokine release.
