Stroemgren photometry of globular clusters: M55 & M22 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
We present Stroemgren CCD photometry for the two galactic globular clusters M55 (NGC 6809) and M22 (NGC 6656). We find average Stroemgren metallicities of -1.71 dex for M55 and -1.62 dex for M22. The determination of metal abundances in cluster giants with the Stroemgren m1 index in comparison with spectroscopic data from Briley et al.

The Metallicity Distribution Function of Red Giants in the LMC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We report new metallicity determinations for 39 red giants in a 220 square arcminute region, 1.8 degrees southwest of the bar of the Large Magellanic Cloud. These abundance measurements are based on spectroscopy of the Ca II infrared triplet. The metallicity distribution function (MDF) shows a strong peak at [Fe/H] = -0.57 +/- 0.04. Half the red giants

DNA damage‐induced allosteric activation of protein phosphatase PP1:NIPP1 through Src kinase‐induced circularization of NIPP1

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 291, Issue 12, Page 2615-2635, June 2024.
The PP1:NIPP1 complex is activated by DNA damage‐induced phosphorylation of NIPP1 at Y335 by a Src kinase. This activation stems from the circularization of NIPP1, leading to de‐inhibition of associated PP1 and enhanced substrate recruitment via NIPP1.

Epigallocatechin-3-gallate suppresses the expression of HSP70 and HSP90 and exhibits anti-tumor activity in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2010
Background Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), one of the major catechins in green tea, is a potential chemopreventive agent for various cancers. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of EGCG on the expression of heat shock proteins (HSPs) and ...

ESO452-SC11: The lowest mass globular cluster with a potential chemical inhomogeneity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present the largest spectroscopic investigation of one of the faintest and least studied stellar clusters of the Milky Way, ESO452-SC11. Using the Anglo-Australian Telescope AAOmega and Keck HIRES spectrographs we have identified 11 members of the cluster and found indications of star-to-star light element abundance variation, primarily using the ...

Colloidal quasi-2D Methylammonium Lead Bromide Perovskite Nanostructures with Tunable Shape and High Chemical Stability [PDF]

open access: yesSmall 20 (2024) 2405758
Control over the lateral dimensions of colloidal nanostructures is a complex task which requires a deep understanding of the formation mechanism and reactivity in the corresponding systems. As a result, it provides a well-founded insight to the physical and chemical properties of these materials.

Remodeling After Myocardial Infarction in Humans Is Not Associated With Interstitial Fibrosis of Noninfarcted Myocardium [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Objectives. This study was specifically designed to evaluate whether noninfarcted hypertrophic myocardium in patients with end-stage heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI) is associated with an increase in interstitial fibrous tissue. Background ...

High-speed Laser Micromachining with Copper Bromide Laser [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
The application of the copper bromide (CuBr) laser as an attractive tool in the micro-machining of different materials has been demonstrated. High-quality drilling by trepanning and precision cutting was established on several materials with a negligible heat-affected zone (HAZ).
