Effect of cyclic AMP and acridine orange on the enzymatic reduction of usnic acid in the lichen Usnea aurantiaco-atra (Jacq.) Bory

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
A fluorescence-detection HPLC procedure has been applied to identify and quantify acridine orange in lichen samples. The dye accumulates in thalli of the lichen Usnea aurantiaco-atra and, in part, it is recovered from protamine-precipitated nucleic acids

Iontophoresis of cyclic AMP

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 1975
The design, calibration, and operation of a source of controlled amounts of cyclic AMP (c-AMP) are described. Typically, 1.5 s pulses containing 10(10)-10(-12) molecules of c-AMP can be delivered to a region about 10 mum in diameter on an agar plate. The resulting concentration profiles are given as functions of distance and time.

Upregulation of inducible NO synthase by exogenous adenosine in vascular smooth muscle cells activated by inflammatory stimuli in experimental diabetes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: Adenosine has been shown to induce nitric oxide (NO) production via inducible NO synthase (iNOS) activation in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Although this is interpreted as a beneficial vasodilating pathway in vaso-occlusive disorders,

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

(Z)-2-(5-Chloro-2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2011
In the title compound, C15H11ClN4OS, the dihedral angle between the nine-membered 5-chloroindolin-2-one ring system and the benzene ring is 10.00 (6)°.

Cyclic AMP in prokaryotes

open access: yesMicrobiological Reviews, 1992
Cyclic AMP (cAMP) is found in a variety of prokaryotes including both eubacteria and archaebacteria. cAMP plays a role in regulating gene expression, not only for the classic inducible catabolic operons, but also for other categories. In the enteric coliforms, the effects of cAMP on gene expression are mediated through its interaction with and ...

Experimental approaches to understanding the role of protein phosphorylation in the regulation of neuronal function [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Studies by Earl Sutherland and his colleagues on hormonal regulation of the breakdown of glycogen in liver resulted in the discovery that the first step in the action of many hormones is to increase the synthesis of cAMP by activating adenylate cyclase ...

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Cyclic AMP modulation of ion transport across frog retinal pigment epithelium. Measurements in the short-circuit state. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
In the frog retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), the cellular levels of cyclic AMP (cAMP) were measured in control conditions and after treatment with substances that are known to inhibit phosphodiesterase (PDE) activity (isobutyl-1-methylxanthine, SQ65442)

Protein phosphorylation in yeast mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
We describe the identification and submitochondrial localization of four protein kinases and of their target proteins in derepressed yeast mitochondria. The activity of one of the kinases depends on the presence of cyclic AMP (cAMP).
