Cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP) levels in ocular tissues
Albrecht von Graefes Archiv fr Klinische und Experimentelle Ophthalmologie, 1977The cyclic 3′5′ guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) content of tissues of the rabbit eye was studied. Very high levels of the cyclic nucleotide were detected in the retina and rather high ones in the choroid and vitreous body, while the levels found in the iris, lens, and aqueous humor were many times lower.

Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate Mediates Penile Erection in the Rat
European Urology, 1993Recent in vivo and in vitro studies suggest that nitric oxide or a nitric-oxide-like substance mediates nonadrenergic, noncholinergic relaxation of trabecular smooth muscle through activation of the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) pathway. In 60 Sprague-Dawley rats, we investigated the effect of intracavernous administration of different drugs ...

The Journal of Sexual Medicine
Abstract Background In males, adenosine (ADO) is known to relax penile smooth muscles, although its role in the vagina is not yet fully elucidated. Aim This study investigated the effect of ADO on vagina smooth muscle activity, using ...

Atrial Natriuretic Peptides and Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate Metabolism
The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 1995Atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), consisting of amino acids 99-126 of the 126 amino acid ANF prohormone, increases cyclic guanosine monophosphate (GMP) (thought to be the mediator of its physiologic effects) in plasma and urine of human subjects. Long-acting natriuretic peptide, vessel dilator, and kaliuretic peptide, consisting of amino acid 1-30, 31 ...

Cellular signaling with nitric oxide and cyclic guanosine monophosphate
Seminars in Perinatology, 2000The understanding of the formation and biological actions of nitric oxide (NO) has grown extensively during the past two decades. With the discoveries of the biological effects of NO and nitrovasodilators on cyclic guanosine monophosphate, with the elucidation of the biochemical mechanisms of NO synthesis, and with the growing knowledge of regulation ...

Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate in Primary Cultures of Glial Cells
Journal of Neurochemistry, 1980Abstract: Cyclic GMP was found in primary cultures of glial cells obtained by dissociation of newborn mouse brain hemispheres. Its basal level (0.52 pmoles/mg cell protein) was as high as that found in adult mouse brain cortex but 10 times lower than in cerebellum.

Molecular Conformation of Guanosine 3,′5′-Cyclic Monophosphate
Nature New Biology, 1973THE molecular structure of 5′-methylene adenosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphonate (cyclic AMP analogue), a synthetic cyclic nucleotide, has been reported1,2. Here we report the molecular structure of the naturally occurring cyclic nucleotide guanosine 3′,5′-cyclic monophosphate (cyclic GMP).

Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (CAMP) and Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate (CGMP)
Abstract Human physiology is highly dependent on a well-coordinated system of communication between cells. A multitude of external signals, including hormones, neurotransmitters, and other molecules, interact with cells via specific cell-surface receptors.Dominika Lipowska James +1 more

Nitric oxide and cyclic guanosine monophosphate signaling in the eye
Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2008This brief review describes the components and pathways utilized in nitric oxide (NO) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling. Since the discovery of the effects of NO and cGMP on smooth muscle relaxation about 30 years ago, the field has expanded in many directions such that many, but not all, biochemical and biological effects seem to be ...

The Endothelium and Cyclic Guanosine Monophosphate in Hyperthyroid-Induced Hypertension
1987We investigated the role of endothelium derived relaxing factor (EDRF) and cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in the altered vascular reactivity of hyperthyroidism (HT). Rats were given daily injections of triiodothyronine (T3), 50 micrograms/100 g body weight for two weeks, and they had significantly higher serum levels of T3 compared to untreated,
