Cyclic adenosine monophosphate and cyclic guanosine monophosphate variations during isometric tetanus in frog sartorius muscle

Tetanic stimulation at different temperatures (5 and 20 °C) of the frog sartorius muscle results in an increase of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) directly correlated to the tension developed. Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels change differently for different temperature values.

In excretion studies in dogs it was found that cyclic guanosine-3′∶5′-monophosphate (cGMP) was eliminated by glomerular filtration only. If there is any permeability of the tubule cells to exogenous cGMP, it must be very low. cGMP (5×10−5 moles) injected into the thoracic aorta of rats induced an increase of the renal electrolyte excretion.

Abstract 3′-5′-Cyclic GMP was found to stimulate polyphenylalanine synthesis in a cell-free system derived from rat liver. The effect of cyclic GMP is detected either in the presence or absence of GTP and appears quite specific since it is not produced by other cyclic nucleotides.
