Shear-stress intensity factors for elastic sheets with cover plates [PDF]

open access: yes
Shear stress intensity factors are calculated for three problems concerning inextensible cover plates either bonded to or embedded in an elastic sheet which is under uniaxial tension.

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Crack closure effect of fatigue crack under cyclic tensile loading

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
The objective of this study is to evaluate crack growth behavior under cyclic tensile loading considering crack closure effect. Crack growth behavior under cyclic tensile loading on a plate with surface crack is tested.

Liquefaction Characteristics of Sand With Polypropylene Fiber at Low Confining Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Built Environment, 2020
The present study evaluates the liquefaction characteristics of Ottawa sand with polypropylene fiber using cyclic triaxial test. A series of stress-controlled cyclic triaxial tests were performed at 34.47 kPa (5 psi) effective confining pressure ...

Memory of the Unjamming Transition during Cyclic Tiltings of a Granular Pile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Discrete numerical simulations are performed to study the evolution of the micro-structure and the response of a granular packing during successive loading-unloading cycles, consisting of quasi-static rotations in the gravity field between opposite ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

A fully implicit multi-axial solution strategy for direct ratchet boundary evaluation : implementation and comparison [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ensuring sufficient safety against ratcheting is a fundamental requirement in pressure vessel design. However, determining the ratchet boundary using a full elastic plastic finite element analysis can be problematic and a number of direct methods have ...

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Cyclic Biaxial Stress Measurement Method Using the Grain Growth Direction in Electrodeposited Copper Foil

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2010
A method that uses grain growth direction in electrodeposited copper foil to measure cyclic biaxial stress is examined in this paper. The grain growth direction is measured by image processing software after a cyclic loading test for various biaxial ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...
