Effect of proof testing on the flaw growth characteristics of 304 stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes
The effects of proof overload frequency and magnitude on the cyclic crack growth rates of 304 stainless steel weldments were investigated. The welding procedure employed was typical of those used on over-the-road cryogenic vessels.

On the assessment of energy dissipated through hysteresis in finite element analysis

open access: yes, 2015
The accurate reproduction of the hysteretic behaviour exhibited by soils under cyclic loading is a crucial aspect of dynamic finite element analyses and is typically described using the concept of damping ratio.

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Cyclic loading and unloading true triaxial tests on remolded loess

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
Aiming at the development characteristics of cumulative plastic strain of loess under different stress paths under cyclic loading and unloading conditions, the remolded loess is taken as the research object, and the round-trip loading and unloading tests

Prolonging thermal barrier coated specimen life by thermal cycle management [PDF]

open access: yes
Measurements were made of the rate of increase in temperature of a ZrO2-8Y2O3 thermal barrier coated (TBC) specimen for various values of fuel/air (F/A) ratios when the specimen is exposed to a 0.3 Mach burner flame.

Comparison of two models of numerical simulation of low cycle fatigue of a plastic material with small grid inclusions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Theory of Cells and a numerical FE method based on strain cyclic plasticity, damage model and technology of died elements were used for a prediction of the fatigue life of a metal matrix composite material.

dUTPase is essential in zebrafish development and possesses several single‐nucleotide variants with pronounced structural and functional consequences

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
dUTPases are involved in balancing the appropriate nucleotide pools. We showed that dUTPase is essential for normal development in zebrafish. The different zebrafish genomes contain several single‐nucleotide variations (SNPs) of the dut gene. One of the dUTPase variants displayed drastically lower protein stability and catalytic efficiency as compared ...

Differential regulation of ZFAS1 splice variants by endoplasmic reticulum stress in hepatocyte cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ZFAS1 is a lncRNA promoting cell proliferation and migration, exhibiting high expression in various cancers. It is conserved, widely expressed, and produces multiple splice variants with unclear roles. We identified several splice variants in hepatocyte models, and found that inhibiting or suppressing regulators of the unfolded protein response (PERK ...

Shakedown behaviour of composite cylinders with cross holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this study, both the lower and upper bound shakedown limits of a closed-end composite cylinder with or without a cross hole subject to constant internal pressure and a cyclic thermal gradient are calculated by the Linear Matching Method (LMM ...

Evaluation of cellular glasses for solar mirror panel applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
An analytic technique was developed to compare the structural and environmental performance of various materials considered for backing of second surface glass solar mirrors. Cellular glass was determined to be a prime candidate due to its low cost, high
