Vaccinia virus regulates expression of p21WAF1/Cip1 in A431 cells

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2010
In this paper, we provide evidence that both the mRNA and protein levels of the cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibitor p21WAF1/CDK-interacting protein 1 (Cip1) increase upon infection of A431 cells with Vaccinia virus (VACV).

Mutant p53 establishes targetable tumor dependency by promoting unscheduled replication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Gain-of-function (GOF) p53 mutations are observed frequently in most intractable human cancers and establish dependency for tumor maintenance and progression.

DEL‐1 is an Endogenous Senolytic Protein that Inhibits Senescence‐Associated Bone Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Senescent bone marrow stromal cells accumulate in the aging bone microenvironment, promoting bone degeneration. DEL‐1, an endogenous secreted protein, acts as a natural senolytic that selectively eliminates these cells. By engaging a β3 integrin/CD73/adenosine/p38 MAPK/BCL‐2 pathway, DEL‐1 counters aging‐related bone loss, revealing promising ...

Fimbrin phosphorylation by metaphase Cdk1 regulates actin cable dynamics in budding yeast

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Metaphase cells preferentially promote actin cable assembly through cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (Cdk1) activity. Here the authors identify fimbrin as one of the main metaphase Cdk1 targets for cell cycle regulation of actin cable assembly in budding yeast.

Bifurcation analysis of a model of the budding yeast cell cycle

open access: yes, 2004
We study the bifurcations of a set of nine nonlinear ordinary differential equations that describe the regulation of the cyclin-dependent kinase that triggers DNA synthesis and mitosis in the budding yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Interaction between Yeast Cdc6 Protein and B-Type Cyclin/Cdc28 Kinases [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
During purification of recombinant Cdc6 expressed in yeast, we found that Cdc6 interacts with the critical cell cycle, cyclin-dependent protein kinase Cdc28.

Inhibition of cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) by indirubin derivatives in human tumour cells

open access: yesBritish Journal of Cancer, 2001
The bisindole indirubin has been described, more than 30 years ago, as being clinically active in the treatment of human chronic myelocytic leukaemia. However, the underlying mechanism of action has remained unclear.

CD168 Identifies Proliferating Pancreatic Islet Cells in Murine and Human

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies CD168 as a conserved surface marker for proliferating β‐cells in mouse, human islets, and pancreatic islet tumors. CD168⁺ cells show high proliferation and low insulin expression. CD168+ cells form mostly uni‐β lineage clones, and some of the clones are multi‐lineage.

Effects of prostratin on Cyclin T1/P-TEFb function and the gene expression profile in primary resting CD4+ T cells

open access: yesRetrovirology, 2006
Background The latent reservoir of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in resting CD4+ T cells is a major obstacle to the clearance of infection by highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). Recent studies have focused on searches for adjuvant
