Woodward and Hoffmann on Secondary Orbital Interactions. How to Make a Fine Two‐Course Meal from Leftovers**

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
In February through April 1965, Hoffmann devised several MO tools to explain the regiochemistry of the Diels‐Alder and the preference of the Cope reaction to proceed by the chair rather than boat orientations, when both were possible. The secret lay in secondary orbital interactions that were revealed through qualitative perturbation theory.

Unnatural Triggers Converted From Tetrazine‐Attached Sialic Acid for Activation of Optoacoustic Imaging‐Guided Cancer Theranostics

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 26, June 24, 2025.
Tetrazine precursors (SiaTz) based on a nonO‐acetylated sialic acid scaffold are rationally designed and synthesized, which can be efficiently converted into unnatural tetrazine (Tz) triggers on cancer cell surfaces via metabolic glycoengineering. These Tz triggers activate theranostic agents for multispectral optoacoustic tomographic (MSOT) imaging ...

Observation of unusual outer-sphere mechanism using simple alkenes as nucleophiles in allylation chemistry

open access: yesNature Communications
Transition-metal catalyzed allylic substitution reactions of alkenes are among the most efficient methods for synthesizing diene compounds, driven by the inherent preference for an inner-sphere mechanism.

Rapid Assembly of the Salvileucalin B Norcaradiene Core [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Preparation of the polycyclic core of the cytotoxic natural product salvileucalin B is described. The key feature of this synthetic strategy is a copper-catalyzed intramolecular arene cyclopropanation to provide the central norcaradiene.

A Review of Electrified Methane Conversion: Utilizing Electrocatalysis, Plasma, Electric‐Field and Electro‐Thermal Technologies

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, EarlyView.
Four predominant technologies for electrified methane conversion. Methane, a potent greenhouse gas and a major component of natural gas, holds immense potential as a feedstock for producing value‐added chemicals and fuels. This review examines recent advancements in electrified methane conversion technologies, emphasizing sustainable approaches to ...

β‐Quaternary α‐Amino Acids via Iridium‐Catalyzed Branched and Enantioselective Hydroalkylation of 1,1‐Disubstituted Styrenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 26, June 24, 2025.
A cationic Ir(I)‐complex modified with the chiral diphosphine DM‐SEGPHOS mediates the enantioselective hydroalkylation of diverse α‐substituted styrenes with N‐aryl glycine derivatives. The products are readily advanced to β‐quaternary α‐amino acids that are inaccessible or cumbersome to access by other means. Abstract A cationic Ir(I)‐complex modified

Abiotic factors and plant traits affect the soil microbial properties in forests across the Japanese archipelago

open access: yesEcological Research, EarlyView.
We examined how abiotic factors and plant traits affect soil microbial properties in 18 forests across the Japanese archipelago. Our results showed that, in addition to abiotic factors, plant leaf traits contributed to explaining the landscape‐scale variations in soil microbial properties.
