The salivary gland transcriptome of Varroa destructor reveals suitable targets for RNAi‐based mite control

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
RNAseq and differential expression analysis identified 15 salivary gland genes encoding secreted proteins with putative anti‐bacterial, anti‐fungal, cytolytic, digestive and immunosuppressive function. The three most highly transcribed genes were selected to study their functional importance by reverse genetics, using a non‐invasive approach of dsRNA ...

Dental Calculus Formation Rate: The Role of Salivary Proteome and Metaproteome

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 52, Issue 4, Page 612-621, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Dental calculus accumulation varies across individuals. While various factors contribute to its accumulation, the role of salivary composition remains underexplored. This study aims to compare individuals suffering from rapid rates of dental calculus formation rates with those having slow formation rates in terms of salivary ...

Construction of a metabolic‐immune model for predicting the risk of diabetic nephropathy and study of gut microbiota

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, Volume 16, Issue 5, Page 863-873, May 2025.
This study investigates the clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with diabetic nephropathy (DN) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), utilizing novel metabolic‐immune models for risk prediction. Analyzing data from 312 hospitalized T2DM patients, we identify significant associations between renal function, biochemical ...

Epidermal proteomics demonstrates Elafin as a psoriasis‐specific biomarker and highlights increased anti‐inflammatory activity around psoriatic plaques

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Epidermal sampling of lesional, perilesional and non‐lesional skin from psoriasis and eczema patients as well as healthy skin was used to perform an in depth proteomic analysis. IL‐36γ known to be expressed in lesional psoriasis skin was outperformed by the protease inhibitor Elafin as a disease‐specific epidermal biomarker.

Individualized Net Benefit of Intensive Blood Pressure Lowering Among Community‐Dwelling Older Adults in SPRINT

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The optimal blood pressure (BP) target for older adults with hypertension remains controversial, particularly among those with advanced age, frailty, or polypharmacy. This study estimated the individualized net benefit of intensive BP lowering among community‐dwelling older adults in the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial ...

Treatment strategies to reduce cardiovascular risk in persons with chronic kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 297, Issue 5, Page 460-478, May 2025.
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a prevalent and progressive condition associated with significant mortality and morbidity. Diabetes is a common cause of CKD, and both diabetes and CKD increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death in individuals with CKD. This review will discuss the importance of early detection

Higher circulating FGF21, lower protein intake, and lower muscle mass: Associations with a higher risk of mortality

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Objectives This population‐based study explores associations of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), a key modulator of processes linked to protein metabolism, with protein intake and muscle mass, and their relationships with all‐cause mortality.
