Loss of the RNA-binding protein TACO1 causes late-onset mitochondrial dysfunction in mice

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016

Origin of Jordanian honeybees Apis mellifera (Hymenoptera: Apidae) using amplified mitochondrial DNA

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2008
The honeybee (Apis mellifera L.) has a large number of geographic subspecies distributed across Europe, Africa and Asia, many of which have been described. This identification is important for bee breeding and preserving honeybee biodiversity.

Molecular dynamics simulations and hydrogen-bonded network dynamics of cytochrome c oxidase from Paracoccus denitrificans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Cytochrome c oxidase is the terminal enzyme in the respiratory chain of mitochondria and aerobic bacteria. This enzyme ultimately couples electron transfer from cytochrome c to an oxygen molecule with proton translocation across the inner mitochondrial ...

Cox1 mutation abrogates need for Cox23 in cytochrome c oxidase biogenesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Cox23 is a known conserved assembly factor for cytochrome c oxidase, although its role in cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) biogenesis remains unresolved. To gain additional insights into its role, we isolated spontaneous suppressors of the respiratory growth ...

Characterization of the key membrane protein cytochrome Cyc2 from Ghiorsea bivora

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study reports the first detailed biochemical analysis of Cyc2TAG1_1, a cytochrome protein involved in microbial iron oxidation. We produced and purified this enzyme in E. coli, then measured its iron‐oxidizing efficiency, and characterized its electrical and structural properties.

Multiple Mechanisms Regulate Eukaryotic Cytochrome C Oxidase

open access: yesCells, 2021
Cytochrome c oxidase (COX), the rate-limiting enzyme of mitochondrial respiration, is regulated by various mechanisms. Its regulation by ATP (adenosine triphosphate) appears of particular importance, since it evolved early during evolution and is still ...

Copper‐Driven Epithelial Barrier Disruption: A Novel Mechanism of COPD Acute Exacerbations Mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a copper‐driven mechanism of COPD acute exacerbations mediated by the TNF‐α/ATP7A axis. TNF‐α suppresses the copper transporter ATP7A via competitive NF‐κB/CREB1/CBP signaling, resulting in intracellular copper accumulation, mitochondrial oxidative stress, and epithelial barrier disruption.

Mitochondrial CO1 genetic structure among breeding sites of Chinese egret (Egretta eulophotes) in South Korea

open access: yesJournal of Asia-Pacific Biodiversity, 2018
Chinese egret (Egretta eulophotes) is classified as an endangered species (VU, vulnerable) and is limited to Far East. This species breeds especially offshore in China, Russia, and the Korean peninsula.

Host immunity increases Mycobacterium tuberculosis reliance on cytochrome bd oxidase.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2021
In order to sustain a persistent infection, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) must adapt to a changing environment that is shaped by the developing immune response.
