CAGED AND WILD FISH: INDUCTION OF HEPATIC CYTOCHROME P-450 (CYP1A1) AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL BIOMONITOR

Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, 1993
AbstractHepatic monooxygenase activity can be induced by many different environmental chemical contaminants, and measurement of this activity has been proposed as an environmental biomonitor. Using in situ caged catfish and largemouth bass, and collected wild killifish, environmental induction of hepatic CYP1A1 was investigated using catalytic enzyme ...

Regulation of cytochrome P-450 isozymes CYP1A1, CYP1A2 and CYP2B10 by three benzodioxole compounds

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 1995
Three benzodioxole (BD) compounds were used to investigate the structural requirement for regulation of the cytochrome P450 isozymes, CYP1A1, CYP1A2 and CYP2B10, in mouse liver. Male mice (C57BL/6) were treated intraperitoneally for 3 days with 5-t-butyl-1,3-benzodioxole (t-BBD), 5-n-butyl-1,3-benzodioxole (n-BBD) and 5-(3-oxobutyl)-1,3-benzodioxole (o-

Clinical effects of A4889G and T6235C polymorphisms in cytochrome P-450 CYP1A1 for breast cancer patients treated with tamoxifen: implications for tumor aggressiveness and patient survival

Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, 2013
Individual differences in cytochrome P-450 efficiency partly explain their variations in resistance to tamoxifen and estrogen metabolism. Two polymorphisms of the CYP1A1 gene-A4889G and T6235C-are known to affect activation of estrone and estradiol and to deregulate concentration of highly active tamoxifen metabolites.

Polymorphisms in the human cytochrome P-450 1A1 gene (CYP1A1) as a factor for developing acne.

Dermatology (Basel, Switzerland), 1998
Cytochromes P-450 are a supergene family of enzymes involved in the metabolism of a wide range of endogenous and foreign compounds. The existing genetic variations of the distinct isozymes lead to interindividually different metabolic capacity. Since vitamin A, endogenous retinoids and their natural metabolites are morphogenic for the sebaceous gland ...

Inhibition of Aryl Hydrocarbon-Induced Cytochrome P-450 1A1 Enzyme Activity and CYP1A1 Expression by Resveratrol

Molecular Pharmacology, 1999
We investigated the effect of resveratrol, a constituent of the human diet that has been shown to inhibit aryl hydrocarbon-induced carcinogenesis in animals, on the carcinogen activation pathway regulated by the aryl hydrocarbon receptor. Resveratrol inhibited the metabolism of the environmental aryl hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P) catalyzed by ...

P5-05-07: The Msp1 Polymorphism of Cytochrome P-450 CYP1A1 in Asymptomatic Women with Breast Cysts.

Cancer Research, 2011
Abstract The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of the cystic form of fibrocystic breast changes among women from different age groups correlated with the presence of the Msp1 polymorphism of cytochrome P-450 CYP1A1.

Reduced risk for chronic myelogenous leukemia in individuals with the cytochrome P-450 gene polymorphism CYP1A1*2A

Blood, 2001
Most cancers can be attributed to environmental factors that act in conjunction with both genetic and acquired susceptibility.[1][1] It has been suggested that individuals possessing a modified ability to metabolize carcinogens are at increased risk for cancer.[1][1] In fact, germ-line ...

Polymorphic variation of CYP1A1 is associated with the risk of gastric cardia cancer: a prospective case?cohort study of cytochrome P-450 1A1 and GST enzymes

Cancer Causes and Control, 2004
To determine if genetic polymorphisms of CYP1A1, GSTM1, GSTP1, or GSTT1 are associated with an increased risk of developing esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), gastric cardia cancer (GCC), or either in a high-risk Asian population. We conducted a case-cohort analysis with 5 years of prospective follow-up.
