Crystallographic studies of cytochrome c and cytochrome c oxidase [PDF]
I started on crystallographic studies of cytochrome c (Cyt.c) in the later 1960s at Institute for Protein Research, Osaka University. The institute successfully built the structural model of ferro-Cyt.c by the multiple heavy atom replacement method in the early 1970s.

Novel Extracellular Electron Transfer Channels in a Gram-Positive Thermophilic Bacterium
Biogenic transformation of Fe minerals, associated with extracellular electron transfer (EET), allows microorganisms to exploit high-potential refractory electron acceptors for energy generation.

In situ Raman study of redox state changes of mitochondrial cytochromes in a perfused rat heart. [PDF]
We developed a Raman spectroscopy-based approach for simultaneous study of redox changes in c-and b-type cytochromes and for a semiquantitative estimation of the amount of oxygenated myoglobin in a perfused rat heart.

Biogenesis of mitochondrial c-type cytochromes [PDF]
Cytochromesc andc 1 are essential components of the mitochondrial respiratory chain. In both cytochromes the heme group is covalently linked to the polypeptide chain via thioether bridges. The location of the two cytochromes is in the intermembrane space;

Cytochromes c550, c552, c1 in the electron transport network of Paracoccus denitrificans: redundant or subtly different in function? [PDF]
Paracoccus denitrificans strains with mutations in the genes encoding the cytochrome c550, c552, or c1 and in combinations of these genes were constructed, and their growth characteristics were determined.

New insight into the mechanism of mitochondrial cytochrome c function. [PDF]
We investigate functional role of the P76GTKMIFA83 fragment of the primary structure of cytochrome c. Based on the data obtained by the analysis of informational structure (ANIS), we propose a model of functioning of cytochrome c. According to this model,

A dedicated haem lyase is required for the maturation of a novel bacterial cytochrome c with unconventional covalent haem binding [PDF]
In bacterial c-type cytochromes, the haem cofactor is covalently attached via two cysteine residues organized in a haem c-binding motif. Here, a novel octa-haem c protein, MccA, is described that contains only seven conventional haem c-binding motifs ...
